A MAN CALLED SLEDGE 1970 (SONY)

Pretty damn good western

James Garner stars as Sledge, an outlaw who has a unique idea on how to steal a huge gold shipment. Since they keep the gold in a tightly guarded federal prison, he comes up with the idea of getting into prison and then stealing the gold from within.

Dennis Weaver and Claude Akins are his partners in crime and John Marley is the old man who less them on the very perilous journey just to get to the prison.

They actually manage to steal the gold, but greed turns them against each other. The old man as well as Akins and a few others turn against Sledge and even torture his girlfriend (Laura Antonelli) to death in order to find out where he hid the money.

All in all a great western with a very downbeat ending and Sledge has sacrificed everything for the gold and has lost the most precious thing in his life..

If you like westerns this is a sure thing.
