The film stars off with a young woman leaving her abusive father after he slaps her in the face for coming home late. The woman, Ann Jason (Ann Doran) flees to the big city and there has some trouble finding work. He plight leads her to a social worker named Dorothy Benson (Muriel Evans) who manages to secure her a job in her father's home. Her father is a senator (Wallis Clark).
This is where the plot changes quickly. The film seems to go on the angle of runaway women and then shifts into a typical gangster film. Mobsters kill Benson because he is threatening to destroy their illegal gambling business.
The gangsters take Ann and Dorothy as hostages while they hold up in the home of a female gangsters named Ma Barton (Vera Lewis). Barton is a sight to behold. She is dominating, demanding and very cruel and Lewis plays her perfectly.
This film receives a lot of flack because of it's bizarre plot turn, but it's still an interesting film and moves quickly in it's 64 minute running time.
The cast is very good and again, Lewis steals the show in her small role as Ma. If you haven't seen this, you might want to give it a try.
