The movie opens with Jonas Taylor (Jason Stratham) encountering an unknown disaster at the Marianas Trench five years in the past.
Jump to five years later and a group of scientists are exploring the trench when something destroys the underwater subs that they are using and traps some of them below the sea.
Jonas is called on to rescue them and that is when it's discovered that the largest shark ever known is swimming around down there. It's a Megalodon shark.
During the rescue of the scientists the shark also escapes the deep depths and goes on a killing spree in the ocean. The scenes of the shark killing people and swallowing entire boats is well done for what it is. When the huge monster swims right beneath hundreds of swimmers, it's a rather chilling effect.
There are a couple of great scare scenes in this film and it comes off as a good piece of horror entertainment. I have read a lot of bad stuff about the film and I disagree with most of it. It's pure escapist fun and not to be missed by horror fans.
