This movie has a very troubled history and it wasn't released until 1997. A shame because it's a masterpiece.
Four men rob a payroll and during the ensuing battle with the police, their driver is killed and their car is disabled after being shot in the gas tank.
After a short and violent race thru town they get corned by the police and they kill the guard at a parking lot and take two women hostage. One of the men called "Blade" (Don Backey) stabs one of the women in the neck and take the other as a hostage as they steal a car.
At a stoplight they hijack another car with a man driving a child to the hospital for surgery. From this point on it's a fight for survival between the three kidnappers and their three hostages. The movie never lets up for a second and it almost all takes place in a small car on a very hot day.
It's films like this that make Bava a legendary director in many peoples' opinions. I am one of them. There isn't a bad shot in the entire movie and the acting is excellent.
I will not give anything away for those that have not seen this wonderful film, but trust me, all is NOT what it seems in this movie and everyone is much different than first thought. It's a kicker ending that really got my attention.
The rest of the cast includes George Eastman, Lea Lander, Riccardo Cucciolla, Erika Dario and Maurice Poli.
I cannot recommend this movie enough. The print is beautiful and subtitled in English. Thanks to Kino for getting this movie out so many more people can see this underrated classic crime film.
This film is also known as "Rabid Dogs", and that title fits the three leading men very well as their characters are just that.
