DESTINATION INNER SPACE 1966 (CHEEZY FLICKS)

The year 1966 produced some very interesting and strange films including "Cyborg 2087", "Zontar The Thing From Venus", and "Women of The Prehistoric Planet", just to name three of them, and it seems to me that films of this year have an entirely different feel and look to them. It could just be me, but I doubt it.
Destination Inner Space has just that look and feel which is something between a TV movie and a theatrical release.
This interesting film concerns a space alien who invades an underwater scientific facility in order to start an invasion of earth from under the sea. The monster costume is very cool looking and I have always liked it.
Scott Brady is the military man sent to investigate while Gary Merrill is the scientist who only wants to communicate with the invader.
Lots of diving and underwater swimming back and forth from lab to alien ship, but still an fun film for monster movie lovers.
Sheree North, Mike Road and the gorgeous Wendy Wagner round out a very good cast.
This movie isn't perfect, but who cares, it's fun and it should please fans of cool movie monsters.

GREAT TEXAS DYNAMITE CHASE 1976 (SHOUT)

Jocelyn Jones and Claudia Jennings star as two young women who go on a crime spree of robbing banks and using dynamite to get the jobs done. This is a fun and lively action/comedy film that never lets up.
Jennings was on her way to becoming a major drive in star when she was tragically killed in an automobile wreck on Oct. 3, 1979 at the age of 29. This film really shows why she was on the rise.
Johnny Crawford is also in the cast as "Slim" the young man who helps the women until the law catches up with him and kills him in a very disturbing scene.
Roger Corman produced this gem of a film, and if you like pure entertainment, you'll get it with this one.

AMERICAN TOP 40 THE 70'S

This weekend WMGN is Madison, WI is running a very special edition of AT 40 the 70's. It's the March 25, 1972 broadcast which is the ONLY show Dick Clark guest hosted for Casey Kasem. It's a rare show and is a treat for all Dick Clark fans, and music fans in general. It airs on Saturday May, 5th. This special episode airs at 7am Eastern time, 6 central, 5 mountain and 4 pacific.

COMING ATTRACTIONS

Looks like July 10 is the release date for the long awaited DVD/BluRay combo of Twins Of Evil from Synapse. Lots of cool extras including a feature length documentary on the making of the film entitled Flesh And The Fury: X-Posing Twins of Evil.
This promises to be an excellent release!!

PEOPLE WHO OWN THE DARK 1980 (DVD-R)

Paul naschy stars in this bizarre Euro horror film about a group of rich DeSade worshippers who are some of the very few left alive after a small atomic war has left most of the people dead or blind.
It seems that the blind have gone mad and are killing all those who have sight by either ripping out their eyes or shooting them. How can they do this if they are blind you ask...well you have to watch to find out.
This is a very rare film and if you get a chance to see it you might enjoy it.
Directed by leon Klimovsky, who was a long time collaborator with Naschy, this film does have it's moments and a very out in left field ending that will be sort of a shock.

DICK TRACY 1945 (ALPHA)

Morgan Conway essays the role of the worlds most famous policeman in this well made little film from RKO. Here Tracy must find a brutal killer named Splitface, played by Mike Mazurki.
Anne Jeffries is Tess Trueheart and Lyle Latell is Pat Patton. This is a great little B movie that should easily please any fan. Conway would play Tracy one more time in Dick Tracy Vs. Cueball.

FURY OF THE COCOON 1953 (IMAGE)

This is an exceptional episode of the television show Tales Of Tomorrow. It aired on March 6th, 1953 and is about invisible insect creatures who land on earth and begin making meals out of people.
When we finally see what the little critters look like, they are funny looking in a very creepy way.
This was live tv in an era when you had to use your imagination for TV, NOT the brain dead crap on the tube today. If you get a chance, check out these great episodes which are available.

FOG ISLAND 1945 (SINISTER CINEMA)

Great little myster from the 1940's. These movies are perfect viewing and they don't have the excess garbage of 90's movies or movies made in the 2000's.
George Zucco plays a man who lives on a small island after being released from jail after he was framed by his associates. He invites them to his house to exact revenge as he also suspects one of the killed his wife. Lionel Atwill is his usual sinister best, Veda Ann Borg is excellet as is Jerome Cowan.
This film is nothing but enjoyment and fun for mystery fans and the ending is unique and brutal. Recommended!

SMOKEY BITES THE DUST 1981 (SHOUT FACTORY)

This is nothing more but a drive in movie..period. Roger Corman took several scenes from earlier movies and edited them into this one to save money, and you have a 90 minute mvie with more car crashes and explosions than you'd ever see anywhere else.
Jimmy McNichol is a young man who steals cars and takes a girl he likes on the ride of her life. That is the plot....aand that is all.
It's too easy to tear this movie apart, but suffice to say it is ok for what it is, but don't expect a lot.
The cast also includes lovely Janet Julian, Dick Miller, William Forsythe, and Mel Wells as Abu Habib Bibubu. Chuck Griffith directed and I still believe Chuck was a much better writer than a director.

RIP PATRICIA MEDINA 1919-2012

The actress whom genre fans know best from the films Beast Of Hollow Mountain and Latitude Zero passed away on April 28th at the age of 92. Medina starred in hundreds of movies in her long career such as the two mentioned earlier and other films like Abbott And Costello In the Foreign Legion, Magic Carpet, Lady In The Iron Mask, Francis the Talking Mule and was married to Joseph Cotton until he passed away in 1994.
One of my favorite actresses of the 50's and 60's, Medina was always a great screen persona, and she will be missed.

INDESTRUCTIBLE MAN 1956 (SINISTER CINEMA)

Lon Chaney, Jr. is "Butcher" Benton, a killer with $600,000 dollars hidden somewhere and doomed to die in the gas chamber. After the execution a scientist accidently revives the Butcher with 280,000 volts of electricity, making him impervious to bullets or anything else. He kills the scientist and his assistant, then heads out to looks for the three men who double crossed him. This is an interesting sci-fi film from the period and I always love how cheap it looks!! Casey Adams is the detective on the case, Marian Carr is Eva, the showgirl Benton liked, Ross Elliot gives a great performance as crooked attorney Paul Lowe, Ken Terrell is Joe Marcilli and Robert Shayne is Prof. Bradshaw, the man who accidently brings the butcher back to life. You will also notice Joe Flynn as his assistant. I recommend this film as it is no worse and no better than a lot of low budget cinema, and hey it has Lon Chaney, Jr.
