This is excellent news for all Horror film fans, and I will post more details if and when they become available.
A bookish and dull scientist finds a formula that lets out his other, murderous self in this classic from Hammer and director Terence Fisher. Paul Massie is Jekyll and Hyde and he does a passable job in both roles, but the best character is that of Paul Allen played by Christopher Lee.
This is a good if somewhat slow moving film and it isn't for every one. Columbia brings us a perfect 2.35:1 aspect ratio with rich and deep colors. Horror fans will like this and I do recommend a quick look at it,
Buddy Barnett and Michael Copner hosted this TV show as well as producing a one shot magazine that ended up running for 41 issues. Cult Movies covered just about everything in the bizarre world of movies and this TV show was a carry over from that.
The guests that are interviewed on this disc include Yvette Vickers, Titus Moody, John La Zar, Jack Hill, Forry Ackerman and Verne Langdon. The show was repeated over several years and always gets good ratings. it's low budget Public Access, but it is still fascinating to watch.
I have to recommend this disc for anyone who loves these kinds of movies and the people who made them.
A rare color western from Lippert that stars Willard Parker as Jesse, now living under an assumed name in Missouri. He is recruited by his old friend Bob Ford to do one more heist.
Greed and other things turn the men who are on the heist against one another and needless to say the men fail in their task. The heist actually involves taking gold from a mine that is very dangerous to enter.
Tom Neal, Richard Cutting and gorgeous Barbara Payton are also on hand here. I liked this movie a lot. It is a simple formula western, but kept my attention and it moved quickly. This is only the second film I have ever seen Willard Parker in and he does a descent job with the lead. Recommended for western fans.
A cargo ship with some passengers who have many personal issues finds itself caught in a violent hurricane in which a few survive. The survivors drift until they are caught in a mysterious weed that takes them to a very strange land.
This land they are on is populated by the ever menacing weeds as well as giant mutated crabs and scorpions as well as Spanish Conquistadors who believe the inquisition is still going on. The mutant monsters are really a sight to behold and one of the best visual effects is sexy Suzanna Leigh whose goal in life is to find a man. The dresses she wears...well lets just say they are hotter than hell.
This is one strange movie full of bizarre images and characters unlike anything Hammer ever did before or after. The stellar cast includes Michael Ripper, Eric Porter, Hildegard Neff, Tony Beckly and Dana Gillespie. I recommend this for anyone who wants to see something a little bit different.
Someday I ned to find out what makes people hate this film so much. It simply fun to watch and the monster is very cool looking.
A scientist transforms himself into a fish-like monster and seeks to kill those that laughed at his work and to also seek a mate and then take over the entire world. After several murders a small scientific team is called in to investigate. The entire town of Cypress Grove, Florida is terrorized by the murders and the sudden appearance of many walking catfish.
Wade Popwell, to whom the film is dedicated plays the monster while Marshall Grauer is the mad doctor Kurt Leopold. I hadn't seen this film for years and to finally see it again was a great experience. The film is well made for a regional effort and the acting is fine. The rest of the cast is rounded out by Gerald Cruse, Dave Dickerson (who also did a few national commercials back inthe 80 for various products), gorgeous Sanna Ringhaver and Nancy Lein.
If you haven't seen this film, I really think it is time you do. Highly Recommended!
This is the fist film version of the great novel by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle about Prof. Challenger finding a plateau where dinosaurs still roam, and his efforts to get a second expedition to it so he can capture one.
The expedition is put together and soon they are off again. The dino footage is very, very good and I like the use of colors in this restored print from the Eastman House. This version looks far better than other versions I have seen and there are many new scenes that were totally new to me.
The running time varies from what many have said, but I was still satisfied with what Fox has given us. This is included with the Irwin Allen remake of 1960, which will be review here at a later date. Recommended viewing.
Chester Turner wrote, directed, edited and did the music for this one of a kind thriller. A church going woman buys a strange doll in a small shop and soon it comes to life, ties her to a bed, assaults her and then disappears!! The dolls tongue looks like a Popsicle stick and it reminds me of a black Jerry Mahoney.
Seeing this film after about 10 years really blew me away. There are scenes when the music is way too loud and drowns out some of the dialogue, but why quibble. This is the epitome of the great 80's when anyone could make a movie. Turner has a masterpiece on his hands and I have learned that he is going to be at Cinema Wasteland in Cleveland this October and will be offering his masterpiece on brand new DVD transfers!!
Every fan of bad cinema on film in general should see this movie before they die. A work of art that simply cannot leave your mind once you see it. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
Oh yes...you gotta love that twist ending!!
John Considine plays a very flamboyant Dr. Death. A man seeks his help in returning his late wife's soul to her body so she may live again, and gets far, far more than he ever bargained for.
Dr. Death makes numerous attempts to resurrect the woman and all fails. The good doctor kills many women hoping to have their souls enter the dead woman's body and even after the man has asked him to stop as he has found a new love, he refuses.
Considine does an excellent job as Death, a thousand year old magician who jumps from body to body when need be. His "I don't care how many people I kill" attitude suits him well. His blood is very corrosive and can melt human flesh. I love this film, it's very different and one that I recommend you see.
The cast is rounded out by Peter Coe, Stewart Moss, Cheryl Miller and Moe Howard.
Kelly was best known as a martial arts actor who co-starred with Bruce Lee in Enter The Dragon. Jim "The Dragon" Kelly also starred in such classic films as "Black Belt Jones", "Take A Hard Ride", "Black Samurai", "Three The Hard Way" and many more.
He will be missed but his skills will forever live on film. He was 67.
