TODAY'S PIC .......

French poster for the Hammer film Horror Of Frankenstein.

DEATH RACE 2000 (SHOUT FACTORY)

Another top notch release from Shout Factory. David Carradine plays Frankenstein, a top notch driver in a transcontinental road race where pedestrians are hit and killed for points.
Sylvester Stallone is Machine Gun Joe Viturbo and a better heavy in a moviue there never was!! . One of the most classic films from the Corman run New World Pictures the action NEVER lets up and it is one hell of a ride.
One of the best releases of the year.

OF UNKNOWN ORIGIN (WARNERS)

A lost little epic about a man, played by Peter Weller whose wife played by Shannon Tweed in her film debut, goes on a vacation with their child and leave him alone in the apartment and he soon finds himself fighting a super intelligent rodent.
Lots os cat and mouse games between the two and it ends up with the total destruction of the apartment. This is a very underrated thriller and a very good one. The scenes with Weller fighting the rat are excellent and well done by director George Cosmotos. Recommended!!

BOGGY CREEK 2 (ELITE)

I loved this film!!! The last of the low budget, shot in Arkansas films from the late great Charles B. Pierce. This time Chuch plays an anthropologist who, along with a team of young researchers investigate sightings of the Boggy Creek monster.
Great scenery and a wonderful laid back style of filmmaking make this pretty damn cool. I loved the monsters as well. So sue me...I liked it.

SOMEONE'S WATCHING ME (WARNERS)

This is considered to be the "lost" John Carpenter film made just before Halloween made him a big time player. In this film Lauren Hutton moves into a highrise apartment and is terrorized by a very sick peeping tom/stalker.
This is a made for TV movie, so the violence is toned down, but the trademark carpenter suspense is right on the mark. Co-stars Adreinne Barbeau, Charles Cyphers and David Birney all do very good jobs.
Recommended thriller.

ATOMIC BRAIN (DVDTEE)

This new company sells the DVD movies along with cool T-shirts with the original poster art on the shirt. Yes, I bought one and I think it's pretty cool. Three young women are brought from Europe to live with an elderly woman who wants to have her brain put into one of their lovely bodies courtesy of a mad scientist who also lives in the house.
The doctor has a female zombie wandering around as well as a mutant mad/dog who guards the house. The women arrive and one is killed and has her brain replaced with that of a house cat!! Wow that is something!!
Judy Bamber is the sexiest of the women and she loses an eye after an attack from the Man/dog and all the insanity ends when the mad doctor replaces the cat's brain with the old lady's brain and the house goes up in flames after the old lady/cat exacts some revenge.
One of the most low budget films I have ever seen, but my gosh is it entertaining!! Highly Recommended!!

PTERODACTYL (SHOWTIME)

Very well made film from director Mark Lester about a flock of prehistoric monsters that kill a group of special forces agents and a small group of scientists who have come to the region of Mt. Ararat, where the monsters live.
Some of the effects work isn't too good, but that does not detract from the fact that this is a very good film. Coolio plays the head of the Special Ops unit and Cameron Daddo and Amy Sloan are the two head scientists.
Cool monsters, a good story and fast action make this a winner all the way.

COMING ATTRACTIONS

Shout Factory has announced another round of Roger Corman Cult Classics to be released!!
10/19 Warrior & The Sorceress/Barbarian Queen
11/16 Streets/Angel In Red
12/07 Crazy Mama/Lady In Red
12/07 Big Bad Mama/Big Bad Mama 2
More mouth watering stuff to be sure from many different genres!!

TWISTED JUSTICE(TROMA)

With a great cast including Erik Estrada, Karen Black, Shannon Tweed and Jim Brown, I figured this was going to be an excellent film, but sometimes life just isn't fair. Director, writer, producer David Heavener tries but just cannot pull this off very well.
In the year 2020 police are stopped from using guns and must use tranquilizers to apprehend suspects, and as you know only criminals have guns, much like real life.
This movie just didn't hold my attention and for that I am sorry. It really is inexcusable for such a great cast to be wasted.
Watch this one on your own but be forwarned, it ain't that hot.
