Beautiful Lisa Gaye stars as Dixie Ann Dikes a young girl living with foster parents. One night she is kidnapped and raped by her former boyfriend and her foster parents blame her for the attack and refuse to take her back in.
She stays at a girls school until she is 18 and then she moves in with a woman named Linda (Lynette Bernay). Things settle down well for Dixie and she is even invited to participate in a local beauty pageant, which she wins easily. Then it is on to Miss America.
However she meets and falls for a man named Chuck Logan (William Campbell) who appears to be very nice. He convinces her to marry him secretly since she cannot be married and be a Miss America contestant. Chuck is actually a petty thief and kidnapper. When he is caught in a scheme he tells the police that Dixie is his wife.
This shatters her career chances and she soon finds herself stripping in a small club and then attempting armed robbery just to survive.
This is a bleak tale and I think it really should be better known than it is. Gaye is always a treat for the eyes in any film and this is no exception. Campbell is his usually sleazy self and fits perfect into his role.
The print is pretty worn and has some bad splices, but what the heck, see it anyway, if you can.
