WRESTLING GOLD VOL. 5 2004 (VCI)

This is the 5th and final volume in this remarkable series.

This disc is entitled "Beat Me If You Can" and is actually the shortest one running at 91 minutes.

This contains some more memorable matches from what I consider to be the golden days of pro wrestling. The first match is Nick Bockwinkel vs. Terry Allen (aka Magnum TA). This was one of Terry's early matches and it shows he had the skills to become the superstar he did.

Match 2 is Ivan Putski vs. Eddie Mansfield. This takes place on Southwest Championship Wrestling as did the previous match. Good stuff indeed.

The third match is Tito Santana vs. Kelly Kiniski, again from Southwest, and it highlights the talents of both men.

The 4th match is a classic featuring The Sheik Vs. Tom Jones. This is a TV studio match from Toronto where The Sheik was one of the most feared and hated wrestlers for 30 years. They just don't make wrestlers like him anymore or managers like The Grand Wizard.

Match 5 features Bobo Brazil against Michael Angelo. Brazil was one of the first black wrestlers to become a main event competitor and in this match you can see why.

Match 6 is from Southwest Championship Wrestling and features Chief Wahoo McDaniel against Tully Blanchard. It's a wild one that is not soon forgotten.

Match 7 is from the wonderful Mid-South Wrestling promotion. This is a TV studio match between Eddie Gilbert and Jerry Lawler. Things get out of hand as Rick Rude and Jimmy Hart interfere. Great stuff.

Match 8 is from Professional Big Time Wrestling out of Toronto and is a bizarre Mud Match featuring The Sheik against Tiger Jeet Singh. Not only did the Sheik rule Detroit but Toronto as well. This classic brawl is odd to say the least but it does bring back a lot of memories for people like me who grew up with this.

Match 9 is Austin Idol Vs. Massaao Ito in a Mid-South studio match. Trust me, there was nobody like Idol. A great one.

Match 10 is again from Southwest and features one of the best tag teams ever in Tully Blanchard and Gino Hernandez against Scott Casey and Terry Allen. A classic studio match in which Hernandez and Blanchard cheat their way to victory.

Match 11 is Terry Taylor against Sabu, however this is NOT the Sabu from ECW. This takes place at the Mid-South Coliseum and while not a bad match, it is easily the slowest on the disc.

The 12th and final match involves a six man tag match with Chief Wahoo McDaniels, Tommy Rogers and Marty Janetty going up against Ted Oates and The Grapplers. It's an out of control wild brawl from SCW.

The intros to the matches are handled once again by Dave Meltzer and Jim Cornette as they give some great insight to these men and the matches. All in all a great set for people who like wrestling, not the junk of today.

All five discs are collected onto one set called Wrestling Gold, and I briefly wrote about it in 2012, but decided to give you a better look at these by gone days.
