Dennis O' Keefe stars as Steve Bennett, a young and upcoming attorney. After a court appearance a District Attorney named Craig Warren (Adolph Menjou) is impressed with Bennett's style and wants to hire him, which he does.
Warren quickly puts Steve to work on a case he is building against a rising crime boss named James Randolph (George Coulouris). Steve goes to see Randolph and is taken aback by his secretary Marcia Manning (Marguerite Chapman).
Randolph hatches a scheme to get Warren and Bennet to back off. He has the gorgeous Marcia slowly seduce Bennett and Steve falls for her in a hard way. I don't blame him, she looks incredible.
This sets up the rest of the movie as a cat and mouse game between Warren and Randolph as well as uncovering the dark secrets of Marcia in another town she lived in.
This is a complex little film that keeps your attention during it's running time. I was captivated by Chapman everytime she was on the screen. If you're a film noir fan you're sure to enjoy this effort.
The rest of the cast includes Michael O'Shea, Jeff Donnell, Steven Geray, Ralph Morgan, Arthur Space and Gene Roth. RECOMMENDED!
