Kerwin Matthews stars as Sgt. Thomas Sloan, one of the many fighting men who are engaged in combat on Guadalcanal.
The leader of the platoon he is in is Lt. Joel Brady (Ray Danton), a somewhat careless and reckless man who returns from the battle with only two out of 18 men left alive.
To top it off he killed one of his own men who also happened to be the best friend of Sloan. The middle part of the movie switches to a personal battle between the two men as Brady falls in love with the sister of a woman Sloan is seeing.\
It gets even more complicated before both men are sent to Tarawa for another bloody battle. I really liked this movie, and while it may not be a bang em up war film, the excellent cast make it a gem.
The rest of the cast includes lovely Julie Adams, Karen Sharpe, Onslow Stevens, Morris Ankrum, Larry Thor, Booth Colman and Peggy Maley.
I recommend this movie to any fan of cinema. I wish they still made movies like this.
