Stephen King and George Romero got together and made this top notch homage to EC horror comics of the 1950's.
There are five stories and a wrap around. In the first story a man returns from the dead to avenge his murder and lack of a cake on "Fathers Day". Carrie Nye and Ed Harris star in this story as does Viveca Lindfors.
The second tale stars Stephen King himself as Jordy Verrill, a dimwit farmer who finds a meteor that contains a fluid that makes things grow, and he gets it all over himself. This is the one story that is deliberately comedic. The title is The Lonesome Death of Jordy Verrill.
The third tale stars Ted Danson as a man who has an affair with a married woman whose husband takes a most unusual form of revenge. Leslie Nielsen is the man who drowns both his unfaithful wife and Danson while they are buried up to their necks on the beach. However, they do come back and seek revenge. The episode is entitled "Something To Tide You Over".
The fourth tale is entitled "The Crate" and it stars Hal Holbrook, Fritz Weaver and Adrienne Barbeau. A college professor discovers an old crate which contains a sharp tooth, hairy monster with a huge appetite. It is considered by many to be the best episode of the film. Holbrook schemes to rid himself of his shrewish wife by using the monster.
The fifth and final take is "They're Creeping Up On You" which stars E.G. Marshall as Upson Pratt, a very wealthy and cruel man who detests bugs. He soon finds his apartment overrun with thousands of cockroaches in what has to be one of the most shocking finals to any movie I have seen.
The wrap around story is about a man who throws his son's comic book entitle "Creepshow" away, and the child gets his revenge in a most unusual way.
This film is one of my all time favorite films, and it was good to see it again. I assume if you've been on this blog you have seen this film. If you hsven't. do yourself a favor and watch it.
