BARB WIRE 1996 (UNIVERSAL)

A widely panned film that a lot of people hated.

Pamela Anderson stars as Barb Wire, a gorgeous, black leather clad bar owner who lives in a town called Steel Harbor, which after the second American Civil War is the only free city left in the United States.

Barb makes money on the side by buying and selling things including people and government secrets. One day her ex lover Axel (Temuera Marrison) asks for her help in smuggling a young female doctor named Cora D (Victoria Rowell) across the border to Canada.

It seems that Cora has developed a new kind of contact lens that the new government called American Congressional wants to own as it allows people to get thru their check points without question.

The Congressional's are led by Colonel Pryzer (Steve Railsback) who will do anything to keep America completely under government rule. His character is heartless and insane as we are first introduced to him torturing a young woman, getting the required information and then killing her.

Barb is at first not interested in helping the rebels but after Pryzer destroys her bar called The Hammerhead and her brother is killed, she decides to help.

This movie was condemned from the very beginning of its inception. Let's be honest here. Pamela Anderson is incredibly sexy in her tight leather outfits as well as her nude scenes, which are very few. She isn't the best actress in the world, but does that matter? Hell no. What matters is that the film entertained me and I liked it so much I had tons of Barb Wire items such as banners, pics and trading cards.

I still have the pics from Pam on the set of the movie and those I will never get rid of those. Anyway, this film didn't aim for anything except for what it was...entertainment. Pam really does look like the comic book character Barb Wire. It's rather interesting this film takes place in 2017 after the second civil war, and although we are nowhere near as destroyed as depicted in the movie, this country has slipped into an abyss much like this films setting.

All I can say is I liked the film, and yes it was Pam who carried the entire film, and maybe that wasn't such a good idea, but I have seen much worse indeed. One more thing, the opening title sequence is probably the best of it's kind I have ever seen.
