HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO.....
Robert Towne is 81, Tom Neyman is 80, and Boris Karloff was born on this date in 1887.
There is no one like Boris Karloff. A lost generation of stage trained people who brought their skills to film. These days, people learn film acting, but in the old days of the transition of silent to sound, there was a large regiment of stage trained actors and actresses who brought great voices and unique looks to film. One has to watch the old time films, or see film of stage productions to appreciate the difference between old and new. Back then, it was about good acting and voice. Then came better film resolution, high def. Now the visual image and effects overpower the acting. Salute the days of black and white film, when we had to rely on fabulous character development and insightful cinematograhy to bring a personality home.
