This is a slow burn film, but if you stick with it you get a great payoff.
Antonio Sabata stars as Paul Valery, an ex-boxer who is one of three men who attempt a bank robbery. Paul is shot and the other two do not help him. Instead, they take the money and run after shooting a cop.
On his way to prison, the van Paul is riding in is hijacked and Paul learns that Prof. Orson Kruger (Van Johnson) is behind the escape because he was the one who set the whole robbery up in the first place, and the other two men not only left Paul for the cops, but didn't split the money with Kruger either, as they were instructed.
Paul is given plastic surgery to change his face and Kruger also gives him a new partner named Gloria (Lucretia Love) who is both brilliant and gorgeous.
Paul is a hot head who takes things into his own hands instead of doing as Kruger instructed and this causes several deaths and other problems.
The climax is a great one that I won't give away here, but it follows all the rules os Giallo and American Film Noir. The movie is very well acted and when I saw it streaming there were several snippits of the original Italian dialogue, which means it's uncut with restored scenes.
Besides gorgeous Italian women, this film offers a great script and fine, tight direction from Roberto Bianchi Montero. RECOMMENDED.
The rest of the cast includes Klaus Kinski, Teodoro Corra, Brigitte Brandt, Franco Marletta and Maria Tedeschi.
One more thing I must mention...Klaus Kinki gives a death performance that has to be seen to be believed. It's classic.
