PSYCHIC KILLER 1976 (DARK SKY)

Again, another film a lot of people put down.

Jim Hutton stars as Arnold Masters who is taught Astral projection while in a mental hospital by another inmate. Masters is released from the hospital after someone comes forward and confesses to the crime Masters was jailed for.

Arnold then sets his goals and they are evil ones. He takes revenge on those he believes wronged him and his late mother. Some of the deaths are very gruesome, especially the one in which a butcher played by Neville Brand is cut to pieces by his meat cutting equipment.

Paul Burke is a detective on the case along with his partner played by Aldo Ray. Julie Adams is a doctor who took care of Arnold in the hospital and she falls in love with Burke while they are investigating the case.

This was produced by Marti Rustam and directed by actor Ray Danton and is very well acted. You just gotta love the banter between Brand's character and Della Reese in the butcher shop.

The entire movie is a very clever idea and it is never boring. I would recommend this to any horror fan. The rest of the cast includes Whit Bissell, Rod Cameron, Greydon Clark, Mary Wilcox, Judy Brown and Nehemiah Persoff.

RIP ALAN STEEL 1935-2015

Actor Sergio Ciani (Alan Steel) died on Sept. 5th at the age of 79, two days shy of his 80th birthday.

He is best known to US audiences for playing Hercules in several films including "Hercules Against The Moonmen" and "Hercules And The Masked Rider" amongst several others.

Ciani started his film career in 1958 with the film "Hercules Unchained" which starred Steve Reeves in the lead role. After the Hercules craze ended, Ciani went on to others roles in many genres of films including horror, spaghetti westerns and comedies.

Goddspeed to Sergio Ciani, or as we know him here in the US Alan "Hercules" Steel. Cause of death is not known as of this writing.

GIANTS OF THESSALY 1960 (MILL CREEK)

One of the best tales about Jason and the Argonauts, and this is directed by Riccardo Freda.

In this well made sword and sandal film Jason must search and find the Golden Fleece in order to make the angry gods happy again. Jason's land has been overrun with evil tyrants and the Fleece will again bring peace.

There are plenty of cool monsters including an island of witches that attempt to seduce Jason and his crew. meanwhile back home an evil tyrant is trying to win over the entire kingdom as well as make the unwilling queen his wife.

The queen if played by lovely Ziva Rodann, and it is this role and her appearance in "Pharaoh's Curse" that I remember her most.

Don't be fooled by other reviews, this is a GOOD film and one that will hold your attention. It's fun, fast paced and the photography is beautiful.

HERCULES AGAINST THE MOONMEN 1964 (MILL CREEK)

One of the best films of it's kind.

This epic finds our hero Hercules summoned to a land to oppose an evil queen who has aligned herself with an evil race of creatures from the moon and they want to bring their moon goddess back to life.

The evil queen Sumara sacrifices the young women of the village to the moonmen in order to make this happen. Alan Steel is Hercules an he looks every bit the part.

There are some cool monsters in here including rock men who will no doubt remind you of the 50's gem "Missile To The Moon". I cannot recommend this enough. It is total fun and always entertaining an every Hercules fan will want to see this if they haven't already.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO....

Beyonce Knowles is 34, Patricia Tallman is 58, and Michael Berryman is 67.

HOUSE OF 1000 DOLLS 1967 (KINO)

Glad to see this film finally on Blu-ray.

Vincent price stars as Manderville, a magician, who along with his assistant, Rebecca (Martha Hyer) is working for a syndicate that kidnaps young women and forces them into slavery.

George Nader is Stephen Armstrong a man on vacation in Tangiers whose wife becomes a target after Steve becomes suspicious of Manderville. His wife Marie is played by the gorgeous Ann Smyrner.

After a close friend is murdered Steve becomes very interested in finding the killers and has to fight for his life on several occasions. Finally he infiltrates the title location and brings an end to the slavery ring.

This isn't as bad a film as most people say it is. I first saw it on the USA network many years ago and rather enjoyed it. Harry Alan Towers wrote it under his pseudonym of Peter Welbeck and Jeremy Summers directed. This reminds me of a Jess Franco film on many levels except there is no nudity.

The Blu-ray really brings out the colorful locations and if you're a fan of low budget 60's crime films, you will like this. I do recommend this title. The rest of the colorful cast includes maria Rohm, Herbert Fux and Wolfgang Keiling.

COMING ATTRACTIONS.....

Lots of very cool stuff coming out to Blu-ray and DVD later this year....

Kino has announced that they will be releasing "The Mask" in a 3-D Blu-ray version. This 1961 thriller is a rare one and a very welcomr addition to any collection. Release date is Nov. 24th. Also slated for release is the 1958 low budget and very fun thriller "Curse Of The Faceless Man". This will be a Blu-ray release as well.

Faceless Man was directed by Edward L. Cahn and is one of my favorite films from the 50's.

Olive has announced a lot of great releases for Oct. 27th including the LONG overdue Amicus thriller "Dr. Terror's House Of Horrors" starring Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Donald Sutherland, Jennifer Jayne and many more. Other titles of great interest include "Phase 4", "Deadly Bees", "Breeders", "A Black Veil For Lisa", "Flying Disc Man From Mars" and "Sometimes They Come Back".

As we get closer to Halloween more details will become available. Most of these are appearing for the very first time on digital media. "Dr. Terror's House Of Horrors" is the one I am looking forward to the most.

BATTLE FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES 1973 (FOX)

This is the fifth and final installment in the franchise.

Ten years after apes have conquered humans, Caesar attempts to gets apes and humans to live together in peace, and it seems to be working ok until General Aldo decides that this isn't a good thing.

Aldo is impressively played by Claude Akins, and his performance almost steals the show. Caesar wants to find out more about his past so he, a human named McDonald (Austin Stoker) and Virgil (Paul Williams) journey to a destroyed city to find tapes of Caesar's father.

Unbeknownst to them, there is a small band of humans living in that city. they are scarred from radiation and very angry. They are led by Governor Kolp (Severn Darden) and Alma (France Nuyen). After chasing the three out of the city the humans decide, under Kolp to wage war on ape city and take their country back.

This movie wraps up the series nicely. The acting is fine and the battle sequences are very well staged. I recommend this entire series to anyone who likes good sci-fi. The rest of the cast includes Roddy McDowell (Caesar), Natalie Trundy, Lew Ayres, and Noah Keen.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO......

RIP MELODY PATTERSON 1949-2015

Beautiful actress Melody Patterson has passed away on Aug. 20th at the age of 66.

Patterson was best known for her role as Wrangler Jane in the 60's comedy show F Troop. While this is her most famous role, she made a few movies such as "Cycle Savages" and the classic "Blood And Lace" which is due out on Blu-ray very soon.

Patterson always brought out a very likable sexiness to any role she had. Sadly, her death has been overlooked in most media outlets, and that is pathetic.

DAVID AND GOLIATH 1960 (MILL CREEK)

Orson Wells stars in this Italian film based on the Biblical story.

Wells stars as King Saul who leads the Israelites in a war against the Philistines.

Saul is told that a new, young king will soon reign and his name will be David. But David has man challenges ahead of him, with one of the being a fight with the giant Goliath.

The movie does drag in spots, but it is interesting and fun to watch a massive actor named Aldo Pedinotti play Goliath to the hilt. He was popular as a circus giant and in music halls of the 1950's.

Pedinotti had a very brief film career and this has to be his best film role ever. He fits the part perfectly. Not too bad of a time killer.

RIP WES CRAVEN 1939-2015

One of the greatest directors of our time has passed away at the age of 76.

Craven was best known for the films "Nightmare On Elm Street" and "Scream" but he has been the brains behind such groundbreaking films such as "Last House On The Left", "Hills Have Eyes" and the fun classic "Swamp Thing".

Craven died of Brain cancer on Aug. 30th, and his talent will be missed but he has left a wonderful legacy of fright films behind.

FINALLY I AM BACK.....

It took a couple of weeks, but things have finally settled down and I will be here on a regular basis again.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.

THE VERY BEST OF WCW MONDAY NITRO VOL. 3 2015 (WWE)

A third great volume of Nitro.

Watching pro wrestling from 1994-2004 was an experience most of the younger fans will never get to experience, and that is a shame.

During this time we had "The Monday Night Wars" which pitted WWE against WCW with WCW clearly taking the lead for almost two consecutive years. WCW had Monday Nitro which was by far the most innovative show of the two. This program started the attitude era in wrestling.

This three disc set is filled with great matches from 1995 to 2001. There are such classics as Sting vs. Diamond Dallas Page, Sister Sherri vs. Madusa, The Outsiders vs. Lex Lugar and Diamond Dallas Page, Goldberg Vs. Ric Flair and much, much more.

There are also some great moments such as when the NWO took over Monday Nitro, The NWO throwing out the Giant and Lex Lugar joining the Wolfpac.

Over 7 hours of great memories hosted by Diamond Dallas Page. This set is highly Recommended to any wrestling fan that was there at the time, or new fans who are just discovering what an era it was.
