THE EVIL CLERGYMAN 2013 (FULL MOON)

A long thought lost horror tale.

Charles Band directed this short tale (29 minutes) about a beautiful young woman named Mrs. Brady (Barbara Crampton) who comes to visit an old castle where her lover, Jonathan, a priest (Jeffrey Combs) killed himself.

The landlady who runs the castle is reluctant to let her in, but finally does and Brady wishes to be alone in the room for a while. In this room she reunites with the ghost of Jonathan until a dead clergyman comes to tell her that Jonathan is only after her soul.

The Clegyman (David Warner) is long dead as well and Mrs. Brady has to deal with him and Jonathan's familiar, a strange rat-like creature with a human face.

This was originally past of a movie entitled "Pulse Pounders" but when Empire Picture went bankrupt it was thought lost forever. It was re-discovered on VHS in 2011 and I am very thankful it was.

Based on a short story by H.P. Lovecraft, this is one twisted tale and they really cram a lot into the brief running time. It was shot in 1988 and it took over two decades to see the light of day. Crampton looks fantastic of course and she does have a nude scene with Combs.

If you get a chance you might want to see this. Man does it bring back the great times of the 80's, and it does have a great twist ending.

COMING ATTRACTIONS...

A couple of very cool movies are coming to Blu-ray.

I mentioned a while back about MONSTER FROM GREEN HELL coming from Film Detective on March 8th and I have been informed that the film will indeed consist of the color scenes at the end of the movie.

The film will no doubt look beautiful and it's on my day one buy list.

Also coming from Film Detective on June 17 is the long awaited Blu-ray release of BRAIN FROM PLANET AROUS!! My God, I can't believe this film is getting the beautiful Blu-ray treatment.

Film Detective just keeps turning them out, and hope they keep it up. These great 50's gems deserve all the loving care they can get.

RIP RON KIVETT 1943-2022

The writer and costume designer of one of my favorite films has died.

Kivett wrote the regional horror thriller ZAAT. He also took care of the costume and did many behind the scenes tasks associated with the film.

It was his only credit besides something called "Ancient Aliens" where he was himself in the film. He passed away on January 23rd, 2022 at the age of 78.

FINAL EXAMINATION 1998 (TUBI)

A Fred Olen Ray directed crime film.

Brent Huff stars as Shane Newman, a burned out LA detective who is sent to Hawaii by his boss Hugh Janus (Jay Richardson) and yes you read that name right...lol.

Newman arrives in Hawaii and finds himself partnered with a beautiful female detective named Julie Siska (Kari Wuhrer). All is quiet until a group of sorority sisters arrive for a celebration and a demented killer stars picking them off one by one.

There are a few bizarre murders in this film, but what really saves it is the women. There is plenty of soft core sex in the film and the likes of Debbie Rochon, Amy Lindsey and lead Wuhrer make it all the better.

There are a few comedic bits in the film as well, and it works to lighten the mood. This is a typical Ray film and this was written by his wife Kimberly, and I know she has her tongue in cheek.

There is an interesting twist in this film I won't spoil of course, but if you like direct to video crime dramas or Fred Olen Ray films, I suggest you watch this.

The rest of the cast includes Belinda Gavin, Ted Monte, Richard Gabai and Kim Lynn. Did I mention Wuhrer looks fantastic in a hardly there bikini? Oh my.

INFERNO 1997 (RETROMEDIA)

This is the first American film to be shot entirely in India.

Fred Olen Ray directed this fine film starring Don "The Dragon" Wilson as Kyle Conners, an Interpol agent who is seeking revenge on those that killed his partner and best friend during a drug bust.

Conners is sent to India by his boss played by the director Fred Olen Ray. Once there he meets Callista Sinclair (Tane McClure) who immediately disrobes and tries to seduce him.

Conners discovers that she is a double agent and this puts his life in even worse danger. There is a ton going on plot-wise in this film and it will hold your interest.

You might find this film under the title "Operation Cobra" but either way it's a good one. There are plenty of fights, gunbattles and beautiful women. Deepti Bhatnagar is gorgeous as Shalimar, the woman who steals Conners heart.

While it is not much different than any of the other direct to video action films, it's a Fred Olen Ray film, so it's a bit better than the others. The commentary by Ray on the DVD is eye opening to be sure.

The rest of the cast includes Jillian Kessner, Gary Graver and Rick Hill. I can easily recommend this.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO...

A KNIFE FOR THE LADIES 1973 (CODE RED)

A very good film indeed.

This is a mixture of horror and western that works on every level. An Eastern detective travels out west to investigate the murders of several protitutes who have been knifed in brutal fashion.

The detective named Burns (Jeff Cooper) meets many people with something to hide including the drunken sheriff Jarrod (Jack Elam). The investigation goes anything but smooth as Burns runs into more trouble than he bargained for.

Burns concludes that the murders remind him of the Ripper murders in England and that there might be a copycat killer running around. The film is filled with colorful characters including Elizabeth (Ruth Roman) who is very sinister as well as Hooker (Gene Evans) a man who will stop at nothing to become sheriff.

Burns falls for a lovely woman named Jenny (Diana Ewing) who is being targeted by the killer. Everything comes to a bizarre conclusion with a plot twist I never saw coming.

It's movies like this that make watching them such a treat. I cannot recommend this one enough, and I hope you get a chance to see it.
