40 years ago on June 21, 1975 I saw Jaws for the very first time. It scared the hell out of me. I have never been in the water after seeing it, and never will be.
Tonight I got to see it again on the big screen and it is still a perfect horror film. Never in the history of cinema has there ever been a more scary monster than the 25 foot great white shark that is nothing but an eating machine.
Roy Scheider, Richard Dreyfuss and Robert Shaw are terrific as the sheriff, oceanographer and shark hunter respectively, who go out to sea to hunt the giant man eater. This is how movies should be made.
It was great to finally see it in a theater again and in the coming months TCM/Universal will be offering such films as "Double Indemnity", "Psycho", and Dracula from 1931 as well as the 1931 Spanish version.
Cannot wait to see all of these on the big screen, and Jaws was the perfect introduction.. If you haven't seen Jaws on the big screen, you should. it is essential viewing.
