This is not an actual sequel to the 1986 film from the same director entitled "Witchboard", it's more of a continuation which isn't related to the first film at all, if that makes sense.
Ami Dolenz is a young woman who moves into an artists apartment to be alone and paint when she discovers a Ouija board and decides to contact a spirit and see what happens.
She manages to contact a spirit that claims to be a woman named Susan who was murdered and this starts a chain of terrifying events. her character of Paige becomes obsessed with finding the grave of the murdered woman and everything else she can.
The manager of the apartment is a rather stupid man whose wife is still stuck in the 1960's. This role is played by the wonderful Laraine Newman. After several contact on the board the spirit gets violent at kills the apartment landlord and this is soon followed by the death of his wife in what I still consider to be a horrendous scene. Yes, some things in movies still get to me.
The son of the dead couple starts falling for Paige and she tries to balance this out with her ex-boyfriend that is also a cop. He is almost killed and the viewer is led down a path that takes a bizarre turn and 3/4 of the way thru the film. I like the twist a lot. It's always good to keep the viewer guessing.
This is an excellent film for Halloween viewing.
