GAMERA 1965 (SHOUT FACTORY)

Daiei Studios answer to Godzilla.

A nuclear explosion in the arctin unleashes Gamera, a giant prehistoric turtle that can fly and breathe fire. The monster heads for Japan and proceeds to destroy Tokyo.

This being the first Gamera film, the monster is presented as a dangerous threat and the way they dispose of him is very unique, but as we find out in the next film, it didn't work for long.

The studio, Daiei decided to make Gamera a childrens monster after the first two films and the entire series got more and more juvenile as time went on, but this is a good example of a Japanese monster movie.

Shout brings us the Japanese version without the American inserts of Brian Donlevy and Albert Dekker. The US actors they have in the film aren't very good, but don't let that detract you from watching this well made monster flick.
