This is an interesting version of the tale of the OK Corral and the characters involved in it. Walter Huston stars as Frame "Saint" Johnson, a famous gunfighter who cleaned up Kansas.
He and several of his friends head west and come to settle in Tombstone, Arizona. When they arrive they see nothing but lawlessness and killings.
The town sets Johnson up as the new deputy Sheriff and things soon change. However, a small group of violent gunmen want Johnson and his friends dead.
This sets up the famous "Gunfight At The OK Corral" conclusion of the movie. The film is based on a story by W.R. Burnett, and while it changes the names of the characters, you know that Johnson is actually Wyatt Earp. The Johnsons are the Earps and the Northrup clan is actually the Clantons.
These changes aside, this is a very well made western which works on every level. It's not you typical 30's gunslinger movie and it is brought to brilliant life by director Edward Cahn.
The Blu-ray presentation is very, very nice for a movie that is 93 years old. If you're a fan of early westerns, this is one for you.
The rest of the cast includes Harry Carey, Raymond Hatton, Russell Hopton, Andy Devine, Russell Simpson and Hank Bell.
