A gangster is released from prison. His name is Miyamoto (Michitaro Mizushima) and he has a very clear mission. He is out to obtain diamonds that other Yakuza members are also after.
Miyamoto meets a young beauty named Akiko (Mari Shiraki) and she gets pulled into the gangland fight over diamonds because her boyfriend is a member of the Yakuza, and Miyamoto is forced to rescue her on a few occasions. The final scenes in the Turkish bath are extremely well done, and we see that Miyamoto and Akiko have developed a very strong bond.
There is plenty of action and a lot of plot twists in this excellent example of Japanese Noir. The movie is not subtle and there are some violent scenes, much like US film noir from the same period.
The director, Seijun Suzuki, stated in an interview once that he made movies "that made no sense". However, this one makes perfect sense and it is quite a movie indeed.
I recommend you see this first rate film, and I am not giving anything away because this film is best seen with little or no information beforehand.
The widescreen Blu-ray presentation is excellent, and note that this is in Japanese with English subtitles. It'a slao interesting to note that the movie was distributed by Nikkatsu who later went into much different territory.
