RIP DEAN STOCKWELL 1936-2021
One of the best is gone.
Stockwell had a career in Hollywood that lasted 70 years. He started in 1945 in a small part in the film "Valley Of Decision" and never looked back.
Dean Stockwell was a very familiar face in every genre of film and TV show. He had over 200 movie credits which included such fare as "The Boy With Green Hair", "Cattle Drive", "Dunwich Horror", "Werewolf Of Washington", "Beverly Hills Cop 2" and hundreds more.
One the small screen he became a household name with appearances in such shows as "Night Gallery", "Hunter", "Murder, She Wrote", but he gained the most fans and fame with the starring role of Admiral Al Calavicci in the show "Quantum Leap".
He had a long and great career. Stockwell passed away on Nov. 7th, 2021 at the age of 85.
RIP JOEL RAPP 1934-2021
The prolific writer has died.
Rapp began writing for TV and movies in 1954 and wrote until 1971. In that time he penned episodes for such shows as Gilligan's Island, Green Acres, Highway Patrol, McHale's Navy and much more.
He wrote tand directed 2 films for Roger Corman. They were "Battle Of Blood Island" and the highly recommended "High School Big Shot".
With those two films alone, Rapp worked his way into my movie loving life. He passed away on Sept. 15th, 2021 at the age of 87.
THE CHILD 1975 (ARROW)
Very strange film indeed.
Laurel Barnett stars as a young woman who travels to an old mansion as a hired housekeeper. She soon finds that the 11 year old girl living there has a very dark power.
It seems that she has supernatural powers and uses them against people she believes are responsible for her mothers death. The housekeeper finds the dark secret to be that the girl, Rosalie can bring back the dead.
This is a pretty good idea on the surface, but the execution isn't as good as it could be. There are several parts of the films that are very confusing and some of the scenes are way too dark to be seen.
This film came and went so fast in 1975 that is hasn't been seen by may people. However, I am sure that changed when VHS came out and Something Weird put it out.
Never the less, it's a horror film that I think you should see if you have 82 minutes to kill. I wil give it credit for having some very odd moments and keeping my attention.

MIDNIGHT 1982 (SEVERIN) BLU-RAY
I saw this many yaers ago and was impressed. I still am.
The story centers around a young girl that runs away from home to escape her cruel step-father played by Lawrence Tierney.
The young woman, Nancy Johnson (Melanie Verlin) gets a ride from two young mewn in a van. As tey are camping out they are attacked by two men dressed as policeman. They shoot and kill the men and take Nancy to their house.
She is kept in a cage and they intend to use her as a sacrifice to Satan. Her step-father in a cop and he goes in search of her. This is a very simple plot, but the execution is done very well.
This film was shot in Butler County Pennsylvania, of couse and features some players from George Romero horror films including Russell Streiner and John Amplas.
A lot of people have said this film is extremely gory, but in reality it's not as bad as they say. Maybe back in 1982 it was considered "very gory" but this uncut edition on Blu-ray is pretty tame.
I liked this film a lot and it seems to me anyway that it's kind of a forgotten gem of a movie. Being a small independent film, it seemed to get lost in the year it was released.
The presentation from Severin is excellent and does contain a few cool extras. Recommended horror for fans of the genre.

FLOWER AND SNAKE 1974 (SYNAPSE) BLU-RAY
Yes indeed, the 70's was a GREAT time for cinema.
Nikkatsu films from Japan made some ofthe most erotic and intense S&M films ever. This is the film I would recommend people unfamiliar with the genre to start with.
This tale concerns an elderly boss of a business who makes one of his young employees kidnap his wife and train her to be a submissive bondage slave.
The young man agrees and the kidnapping is arranged. Naomi Tani is simply gorgeous as Shizuko, the young woman who is to be trained. Things don't go well at first as is expected, but slowly Shizuko accepts her life as it is under the young man.
The young man then refuses to return Shizuko, which makes her elderly husband very upset. Yasunori Ishizu is excellent as the young man who is very happy to keep Shizuko is various forms of bondage.
This is actually the first Nikkatsu film I have ever seen and it really impressed me. Now, it's not for everyone, of course, but if this is your cup of tea you'll no doubt enjoy it.
The presentation is beautiful on this Blu-ray and it's really a MUST see for fans.

THE BIG CHASE 1954 (TUBI)
An odd but well made B picture.
Glenn Langdon plays a young policeman named Pete Grayson who is new to the force, and if that wasn't stressful enough, his wife Doris is expecting their first child.
Doris (Adele Jergins) worries about Pete and his new job. Pete gets mixed up in a plan to capture 4 crazed killers that have made off with a huge sum of money from a bank robbery.
This is a very simple plot but it is done very well, and the cast was my main reason for watching it when I discovered it on Tubi. The rest of the cast includes Lon Chaney, Jr. (who has no lines), Jim Davis, Douglas Kennedy, Joe Flynn, and Lita Milan.
The other two interesting points about this film is that it is told in flashback and it is comprised of two films, this one and a Robert Lippert directed film entitled "Bandit Island" which was shot in 3-D. All of the punches, gunshots and jumping is done directly at the camera for a rather startling effect.
I can't recommend this fun little film enough. It's a great trip downmenory lane with the cast and if you get a chance, check it out.

DEADLY SWEET 1967 (SINISTER CINEMA)
One of the worst films I have ever seen, and not in a good way.
Tinto Brass directed this mess about about a man who believes his father was killed because he was being blackmailed.
That's the basic plot of this boring as hell 60's piece of junk. I'm sorry to say it, but I was not impressed by the 60's styles or the people in the film.
It didn't hold my attention and I found myself wishing it would end. That's all the time I'm wasting here. Watch if you dare.
