JAWS (UNIVERSAL)

The most classic and well known monster movies that takes place in the water. One of the highest grossing movies ever made and it is no wonder. Roy Schieder stars as the sheriff of a small coastal town that is suddenly the feeding ground of a 25 foot great white shark.
This movie scared the hell out of millions of moviegoers and it is one of the reasons I hate the water.
Steven Spielberg does and exceptional job bringing the monster shark to life, and it is a very scary looking thing. If you have never seen this, or if it has been a while, check it out and feel the scares all over again.

PANIC IN YEAR ZERO (MGM)

Ray Milland directed and stars in this very well made film about a family heading on vacation in the mountains and then having to fight for survival after LA is nuked, along with several other major cities in the USA.
Milland plays the role tough and straight and seems natural in the role. Frankie Avalon is his son who must learn to use a gun quickly in order to survive. Jean hagan is the wife who cannot except what has happened.
The plot is simple and the movie is excellent. I highly recommend this film if you haven't seen it already.

MIGHTY GORGA (SOMETHING WEIRD)

Every once in a while a truly bad movie comes by and is so bad it actually becomes greatness. Such is the case with Mighty Gorga. Anthony Eisley and Megan Timothy go in the jungle and search for a huge gorilla they have both heard about..and that is basically the plot in a nutshell, but the good stuff comes in the fact that most of Miss Timothy's flubbed lines are left in the movie as well as some obvious mistakes as to travel and some of the most insane dialogue ever uttered.
But the pride and joy comes from the Mighty Gorga himself!! It is actually only half a costume which is why you never see it from the waist down and the face is actually a never changing expression of hard plastic!! About 2/3 of the way thru the film our gorilla fights the single most unconvincing dionsaur in movie history, a plastic toy model that does not move!!!
Movies simply do not come any better than this! Nothing works in the script and all of the actors try their best but it just cannot work.
If you get a chance, see this one of a kind movie

TERMINAL ISLAND (CODE RED)

One of the final releases from Code Red, this excellent WIP film stars Tom Selleck, Phyllis Davis, Don Marshall, Marta Kristen and others in this tale about an island where murderers are sentanced to live forever. there is no supervision and no escape, much like the John carpenter film Escape From New York, but on a much smaller budget.
Director Stephanie Rothman makes the story interesting with little nudity but lots of violence and bloodshed.. Barbara Leigh is also in the cast and it was a shame when marta Kristen's character got knocked off.
I highly recommend this piece of drive in fodder.

SCORPIONS REVENGE (ASIA PULP CINEMA)

A young and very attractive Japanese woman is wrongly sent to prison in the death of her husband and during the first 30 minutes of the film must endure lesbians, attempted rape and torture, then she escapes to find the people who killed her husband.
There are some interesting twists and turns in this cool little film. If you lip WIP films, then I would recommend this for you.

RIP

it is with great sadness I have to tell you that Stephen J. Cannell, the producer of many, many hit tv shows of the 1980's including Greatest American Hero, Silk Stalkings, 21 Jump Street, Wiseguy, The A Team, Tenspeed & Brownshoe and others passed away at the age of 69 from melanoma.

I first met Mr. Cannell on a flight to Los Angeles in 1984 and we talked the entire time about movies and scripting them and many other topics. He was an inspiration to listen to. He never cared much for the Emmy's he won, but he did care about the friendships he made on his shows, and he was a very well liked man.

He married his high school sweetheart and remaind married to her until her died, which is very rare these days. They were married for 46 years.

We have lost a giant. RIP my friend. I will never forget our talk. What a terrible way to start October.

GREATEST AMERICAN HERO SEASON ONE (MILL CREEK)

William Katt stars in this great little sci-fi/comedy/action show about a school teacher given a red flying suit by aliens which will help him fight misjustice in the world.
This is the plot to the tv show in a nutshell, but it is far more entertaining than that. Watching Katt learn to fly after he has lost the instruction book is always fun and co-stars Robert Culp and Connie Sellecca add just the right flavor to this early 80's tv hit that lasted two years.
Season one is only 8 episodes long, but everyone of those episodes is far more entertaining than most ANYTHING on tv these days.
If you are so inclined, check out this show, both seasons, and relive the fun of what good television was.

RIP

Tony Curtis passed away on Sept. 29th at his Las Vegas home, he was 85. He is remembered for many things and many roles, but I remember him best for the film noir classic "Sweet Smell Of Success" the adventure classic "Son Of Ali Baba" and the horror film "The Manitou".

He is the father of actress Jamie Lee Curtis.

A well respected actor who shall be missed. The AP and all of the other state controlled media will tell you his early films are forgettable, but we must remember that the people that write such things are nothing but educated fools.

SHARKTOPUS

In my opinion this was one of the best movies of it's kind I have seen in many years. It has everything including nice looking women, lots of action and a very cool monster.
The plot has been done to death, but that does not matter as long as it works, and this works very well.
Eric Roberts creates a genetic mutation between a shark and an octopus and then trains it to go after Somali pirate ships, but during a test for the impatient Navy it breaks loose and spreads terror along the California coast and then heads to Mexico.
One of the coolest monsters ever, the Sharktopus actually comes on land a few times and what a sight. I loved this film. Roger Corman and Julie Corman have topped themselves in movies made for the Syfy channel.
When they replay this film I highly recommend it.
