KANSAS RAIDERS 1950 (UNIVERSAL)

Fine western with a load of action and a top notch cast. Outraged by war crimes, the Younger Brothers, Kip Dalton and the James brothers join with William Quantrill and find themselves comitting even worse crimes.
Brian Donlevy is Quantrill and turns in an excellent performance as does Audie Murphy as Jesse James.
The action is fact and furious and the brutal killings of many innocent people by Qualtrill is very well done.
The rest of the cast is rounded out by Marguerite Chapman, Scott Brady, Tony Curtis, Richard Arlen, Dewey Martin, James Best, Richard Long and Richard Egan.
Well done and recommended!!

RAMBLINGS

Well with all the ballyhoo nonsense about a shooting in Colorado during the premier of Dark Knight Rises the leftwing press has been pretty busy. Me, I simply don't care one way or the other.
It has nothing to do with which political party you are a member of, but the left wing media certainly is trying to make it look that way. Oh and of course it was the guns fault. Now all the left wing liberal crazies are coming out saying people shouldn't own guns.
This arguement gets old but I counter with the argument that nobody should ever be a liberal because they lose free thought that way.
I live in reality and while what happened is sad and has affected a lot of lives it is time to move on.
All I can say is it will happen again and Americans will lose more of their freedoms after the left wing sets up another TSA organization.
Does this ruin my movie going experience, NOT AT ALL. I simply do not support the garbage they make today and therefore do not pander the theater owners.
Maybe, just maybe this happens because sadly, there is no penalty for what this guy did. Think about it, there is NO PENALTY for what he did..none whatsoever.

ATOR THE FIGHTING EAGLE 1982 (SCORPION)

From 1982 comes this Italian Conan clone starring Miles O' Keefe as Ator, a young man whose destiny it is to defeat the local spider cult that is ruling the land.
This is a fun little film full of action, lovely women such as Sabrina Siani and a very cool giant spider.
This is the first release of Katarina's Kat Scratch Cinema and the host, the gorgeous Katarina Waters, is well versed in these films and does bring a lot of the behind the scenes stories to her intoduction of the film.
For some reason you can also choose not to watch her into and outro, but as gorgeous as she is I cannot fathom why you wouldn't.
Ator is finally presented in proper ascpect ratio and the picture never looked better. I recommend this for all movie fans that like action, adventure and sexy women, and for the women O' Keefe supplies plenty of beefcake.

MYSTERY OF MR. WONG 1939 (MILL CREEK)

Boris Karloff stars as Mr. Wong, who is trying to solve a murder and the theft of a very precious artifact called "The Eye Of The Daughter of the Moon."
This is a very well made little thriller and is the first of six films to feature Mr. Wong, and it was Karloff's first role after the Son Of Frankenstein in 1939.
Directed by William Nigh for Monogram studios, this is a recommended thriller if you like your movies fun.
Grant Withers, Dorothy Tree and Lotus Long co-star.

CANYON PASSAGE 1946 (UNIVERSAL)

Dana Andrews stars as a businessman who travels from various small towns selling his goods. He is torn between the love of two very different women.
This is classic western story telling and was directed by Jacques Tourneur who would again work with Andres on Curse Of The Demon ten years later.
The small town of Jacksonville, Oregon is settled amongst the cliffs of mountains and makes for a very unusual setting for a western.
This film is also known for it's brutal violence at the time such as settlers being massacred by Indians filmed in very interesting angles.
The technicolor is marvelous to look at as well as all the beautiful scenery. The supporting cast includes Brian Donlevy, Susan Hayward, Patricia Roc, Ward Bond, Hoagy Carmichael, Lloyd Bridges, Andy Devine and Onslow Stevens.
Highly recommended western which has a totally unique look to it.

RIP WILLIAM ASHER 1921-2012

One of the most prolific directors in history has passed away at the age of 90.
Asher directed episodes of TV shows shuch as Twilight Zone, Donna Reed Show, Dukes Of Hazard and hundreds more. He was also producer of such greats shows as I Love Lucy, Bewitched (he was once married to Elizabeth Montgomery), and others.
He also directed some of my favorite films including Beach Party, Beach Blanket Bongi, Muscle Beach Party and Bikini Beach.
Asher had been suffering from Alzheimers for the last few years. What a terrible way to go and may he rest in peace.

MONSTER OF PIEDRAS BLANCAS 1959 (DVD-R)

Another great 50's monster movie that is missing on DVD! A mysterious monster is tearing people's heads off on a small coastal village and a young marine biologist and the town doctor try to stop it.
Don Sullivan plays the marine biologist, Les Tremayne is the doctor, Forrest Lewis is the sheriff and Jeanne Carmen is the young woman who loves Sullivan.
John Harmon turns in a great performance as the man who cares for the monster and tries to keep it a secret.
Once seen, the monster isn't easily forgotten. If you get the chance see this film I highly Recommend it for any monster movie fan.

TERROR FROM THE YEAR 5000 1958 (DVD-R)

One of my favorite 50's sci-fi films and one that is more obscure than most. A scientist working on time travel in the Florida Everglades accidently brings a mutated woman into our time who is looking to find men for breeding stock so her race will be saved 5000 years from now.
Ward Costello is the young scientist who is too eager to test out the equipment and pays dearly for it.
Lovely Joyce Holden is his girlfriend and it is Joyce who actually saves the day. Salome Jens is the woman of the future with the great figure, ugly face and interesting fingernails!!
Today's "sophisticated" audiences would find this slow going because there isn't a comic book character or explosion every 2 seconds to keep their feeble minds busy. The rest of us however, if you like 50's horror and sci-fi will find this an enjoyable little B picture with plenty of suprises and fun.
This originally played on a double bill with The Screaming Skull back in 1958. I wish this was available on DVD, but it is owned by Susan Hart Nicholson and there fore will never see the light of day.
If you find it...see it.
