One of the worlds most prolific actors has died at the age of 81 from pancreatic cancer. Genre fans will remember him for such films as Neptune Factor, Killing Of A Chinese Bookie, Capone, Death Of Ritchie, Convicts Four and many, many more.
A giant of the industry has passed and will be sorely missed.

A very interesting movie person indeed. He will be missed.

DAY THE SKY EXPLODED 1961 (ALPHA)
Interesting little film about an asteroid heading towards the earth. Paul Hubschmid who starred in the 1952 film Beast from 20,000 Fathoms under the name Paul Christian, is the astronaut who is attempting to stop the destruction of Earth.
Not a bad film by any means, but the dubbing is not too hot. This is an odd and somewhat unusual film that seems to have fallen thru the cracks in the history of sci-fi films.

BATTLE IN OUTER SPACE 1960 (SONY)
Classic Japanese sci0fi about aliens from the planet Natal who are bent on taking over the earth. The world fights back and the ensuing battle in one of the most impressive in Japanese movie history.
This movie is NEVER boring and has plenty of great effects work. A nice break from crappy CGI that is overused as of late.
The subtitling is awful and Sony should be ashamed, but don't let that deter you from watching this great, action packed sci-fi gem in it's uncut form.

RIP Don Cornelius 1936-2012
The man behind the Soul Train TV show died on Feb. 1st from a self inflicted gunshot wound. He was 75. Don was instrumental in bringing many, many top acts to TV so everyone could see who they were. I remember growing up on this and American Bandstand.
He was one of the true giants of 70's music.

YOUNG HANNAH QUEEN OF THE VAMPIRES 1972 (VCI)
Very underrated and enjoyable vampire film made in Turkey and starring Andrew Prine as a young man who comes to an island off the Turkish coast to find out why his father died. Patty Sheppard is a school teacher on the island and Mark Damon is her brother. Prine eventually uncovers what is actually happening but only after he has unwittingly released a bloodthirsty vampire from her tomb.
Teresa Gimpera has the title role of the vampire and she does fine with what she has. Good film with some good shocks and a great ending.

THE EYE CREATURES 1966 (RETROMEDIA)
Another shot in Texas film from Larry Buchanan, this one stars John Ashley as a young man who, while on a date runs into some alien creatures that have crash landed here by mistake.
This is a remake of the 1957 film Invasion Of The Saucermen, and while it is no where near as good, it has a charm all it's own. A lot of the usual faces in Buchanan films show up including Bill Thurmond and Neil Fletcher and the leading lady is Cyntha Hull, who it appears never made another film after this. Highly unusual monsters make this a better film than one would think.

MAGNETIC MONSTER 1954 (SINISTER CINEMA)
Richard Carlson stars in this great little sci-fi film from Ivan Tors. A scientists creates a new element that must feed on power every 11 hours. It continues to grow and grow at an alarming rate.
Carlson and his assistant played by King Donovan attempt to stop the "monster" as they track it across the city of Los Angeles and finally onto an airplane in flight. It seems the scientist who created it has it with him and is trying to get rid of it somehow.
Lots of fast action and scientific jargon and just plain loads of fun. Tors was the man responsible for such TV shows as Flipper and this is one of three films featuring the OSI, Office of Scientific Investigation. The others are Riders To The Stars and Gog.
If you like well acted and well written movies, then this little sci-fi gem is for you. Once again Sinister Cinema has come thru. They always have top notch product and I highly recommend them.
