RAZORBACK 1983 (WARNER ARCHIVE)

Gregory Harrison stars in this tight thriller about a giant Razorback in the Aussie wilderness. This is bascially Jaws on land and the pig is frightening and not shown too much.
This was and still is an underrated movie that once was out on DVD but has since vanished. Warner Archive brings us a nice new looking print that is letterboxed and it should make horror fans happy. Russell Mulcahy directed and he does a fine job.
If you get the chance check it out, you'll enjoy it.

I MOBSTER 1958 (DVD-R)

Film noir gangster classic from Roger Corman stars Steve Cochran as a man who works his way up thre syndicate crime ladder. Goegeous Lita Milan is his girl friend.
Lots of action and very familiar faces include Thomas B. Henry, Celia Lovsky, John Mylong, Yvette Vickers and many more.
I love every film Corman every made and this is no exception. If you can find this somewhere check it out.

TOP 40 DVD RELEASES OF 2011 (PART 2) 30-21

30. Humongous (Scorpion) Katarina Winters hosts this film about a bizarre killer on a small isolated island. This is rare and a good addition to your dvd library.

29. Nightmares In Red White And Blue (Lormer) Fascinating documentary on horror films in America. Sometimes tends to get political, but still very well made.

28. Birdemic: Shock & Terror (Severin) I know most of you are probably asking why the hell this is on the list? Wel if you haven't seen it you must. One of the most bizarre and worst fun films I have ever seen.

27. Exterminator (Synapse) Robert Ginty stars as a man pushed too far by criminals who becomes a vigilante. Love the hamburger grinding scene.

26. Bobby The Brain Heenan (WWE) It's about time one of the last true wrestling managers and very funny men got his own DVD release. There will never be anyone as good as "The Brain."

25. Diabolique (Criterion) The French classic about two women who plot to murder a sadistic man which has plenty of twists and turns. A true horror classic and a great looking print from Criterion.

24. Manos: The Hands of Fate Special Edition (Shout Factory) This is a two disc set with the original movie, the MSt3K version and a documentary on the film itself. A long time coming for this awful but wonderful film.

23. Sugar Hill (MGM MOD) Made on Demand disc from MGM is a great blaxploitation film starring the sexy Marki Bey as a woman seeking voodoo revenge for those that killed her lover. Scary and gruesome, this is a real winner in my book. Aslo starring Don Pedro Colley and Robert Quarry.

22. Up From The Depths/Demon Of Paradise (Shout Factory) Another great double feature gem from the Roger Corman Collection from Shout. Up is a jaws rip off ans demon is the better of the two and features one of the last "man in monster suit" creatures. A must have.

21. Dinocroc vs. Supergator (Anchor Bay) Jim Wynorski directed this film, one of the final films of David Carradine about two giant monsters on the loose. Good film for the Sci-Fi network.

See you next week with more of the 40 best DVD releases of the year....................

I WAS A TEENAGE FRANKENSTEIN 1957 (DVD-R)

In my opinion the 1950's was not only the best time in America, but the best time for American horror movies, and this is a perfect example. Whit Bissel stars as Dr. Frankenstein, a modern doctor who is again trying to create the perfect being, but this time from teenage body parts.
Robert Burton is his assistant and Gary Conway is the teenage monster. Phyllis Coates is the doctors love interest whom he lets the monster kill!! I always have thought Phyllis was gorgeous as hell, and in this movie she really gets my bells ringing.
The monsters face is a horror icon as it is one of the most gruesome things in movies up to that time. If you enjoy 50's horror as I do, then find the VHS cassette and watch it. Sadly, this isn't available on DVD and may never be as long as Susan Nicholson holds the rights.

LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS 1960 (MADACY)

The all time Roger Corman classic starring Johnathan Haze as Seymore Krelboined who grows a large plant that both talks and eats people is just as hilarious today as it was in 1960.
This film was shot in 2 days and a night by Corman and it looks very cheap, but that is part of it's huge appeal. The skid row settings are perfect and the cast is top notch. Jackie Joseph is pefect as Audrey and Mel Wells is Gravis Muchnik, the Bloom Tycoon, and Jack Nicholson as a masochist dental patient!
Most of you have probably seen this film, but if you need a laugh there is no better film to pull off the shelf and watch.
Great music scire by Fred Katz had already been used before in other films, but was recycled many times for others including this one.
Highly Recommended!!

THREE STOOGES IN ORBIT 1962 (COLUMBIA)

Larry, Moe and Curly Joe are three comics who stay at the house of an inventor who has created an all purpose flying submarine. The house is soon invaded by Martians who want the machine for themselves, but soon find out earthlings are crazy so they decide to wipe out the planet instead.
The Stooges have some fine gags here, and this movie really took off with the public back in 62 and introduced them to a whole new generation of fans.
I love the Stooges and always have, and this is an excellent effort on their part. Good fun.

THE TIME MACHINE 1960 (MGM)

One of the all time classics of modern movie making stars Rod Taylor as a man who is obsessed with travelling thru time. He builds a device for just that purpose and finds a future race of very meek people called the Eloi who are herded like cattle and eaten by the cannibalistic Morlocks.
HG Wells novel is turned into a brilliant film by George Pal and the special effects are top notch. Taylor does a fine job and Yvette Mimeux is very good as Weena, the girl he meets in the year 802,701.
A great film and a great way to spend a couple of hours this movie co-stars Alan Young, Sebastian Cabot and Whit Bissell.
One of the greats and not to be missed. Very HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

RIP SUSAN GORDON 1949-2011

Actress and daughter of director Bert I. Gordon, Susan Gordon died of cancer on Dec. 11 at the age of 62. Genre fans will remember her from such films as Attack Of The Puppet People, Boy and the Pirates, Tormented and Picture Mommy Dead as well as many more tv appearances.
She will be missed.

COLOSSUS OF NEW YORK 1956 (OLIVE FILMS)

For some reason this is a forgotten little gem of 50's sci-fi that never receives much attention. Ross martin plays a scientific genius whose life is cut short by an accident. His father, played by Otto Kruger attempts to keep his genius alive by transplanting his brain into a huge robot that he has his other son create.
John Baragray is the other son and Martin's widow is played by the always gorgeous Mala Powers.
Powers new love interest is played by Robert Hutton, who suspects something is wrong but cannot get to the bottom of things.
Soon the huge robot goes on a killing spree at the UN. This is a great little film full of interesting plot elements and Kruger turns in a magnificent performance as a father obsessed.
I was first introduced to Kruger and Mala Powers with this film, and I fell in love with Mala. She was good no matter what the film.
Thanks to Olive Films we have a great looking widescreen print of this 50's classic. Very Highly Recommended!!
