FLASH GORDON 1954-1955 (MILL CREEK)

Many years ago I did a short review of one episode that I had, and I haven't seen any since then.

Until now. I managed to watch 14 of them and found the show to be very entertaining and very odd at the same time. Steve Holland stars as Flash and he does a good job. Dale is played by Irene Champlin and Dr. Zarkov is handled by Joseph Nash.

This was produced in West Berlin and ran for 34 episodes making it a one year run. As with all episodic TV, the episodes are hit and miss, but for the most part I really liked them.

The sets are always bizarre, and I think this is because it's German and they have their own way of doing things. Some of the outdoor footage seems to have been shot around some still destroyed buildings from WW2.

Some of the costumes are straight out of a high school play and the acting by the mostly German cast is very bad at times, but it all still works just fine.

I am not sure how many of these are available to see and the show still has a lot of fans so I would love to see them remastered for a blu-ray release. However I am sure that will never happen.

All I can add is that if you like vintage TV sci-fi you should really check these out. The quality varies a lot, but for the most part all are very good and watchable.

RIP SALLY TODD 1934-2023

One of the most beautiful actresses in movies has passed away.

Sally Todd began her movie career in 1956 with a small part in "Revenge Of Mamie Stover" and mever looked back.

Every movie she made she stole it and I have always had a crush on her. Her genre films include "Frankenstein's Daughter". "The Unearthly" and "Saga Of The Viking Women".

She was the Playboy Playmate of the month in February of 1957. Her looks, her talent and her ability to make everything she was in a bit better will be missed, but her legacy will live on.

Gorgeous Sally Todd passed away on July 30th, 2023 at the age of 89. This is the only info I have received at this time. Any corrections and additions will be made as they become available.

RIP SHARON FARRELL 1940-2023

The popular TV actress has passed away.

Farrell passed away at the age of 82 on May 15th, 2023 and her passing is just now making the rounds.

Her career spanned 54 years and you may not know the name, but you'd know her face. Sharon appeared in hundreds of TV shows and a few movies as well.

Her impressive list of TV credits include "Hawaii Five-O", a six year run on "Young And The Restless", "Doc", "Kolchak The Night Stalker", "Six Million Dollar Man" and many more.

Her big screen movies included "Lone Wolf McQuade", "It's Alive", "Night Of The Comet" and "Sweet Sixteen".

7 GUARDIANS OF THE TOMB 2018 (TUBI)

Will I ever learn?

This movie sounded interesting so I decided to check it out. Boy was I wrong.

The discovery of a mummified corpse soon leads to another greater discovery and ultimate disaster. It seems there is a curse on the tomb and the group of people are attacked by very agressive spiders.

How a plot like this can be totally ruined is astonishing to me. Bad acting, bad effects and bad director can do wonders however. I lost my interest about half way thru the movie and it just got worse from there.

It has all the usual PC garbage that one can now expect in movies and it ends up going nowhere. If there was such a thing a good writers and directors in this modern age it would help a hell of a lot.

Nuff said. The movie is boring and disappointing on every level. See this trash at your own risk.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO...

PORTLAND EXPOSE 1957 (TUBI)

Great film noir from 1957.

Edward Binns stars as George Madison, a man who owns a small tavern in Portland Oregon. It has been a safe place for he and his wife Clara to raise their children.

Madison soon gets caught up in a war between a local labor union and a gang of mobsters who want control of the union. Madison caves in to the mob, but soon things change when his young daughter named Ruth (Carolyn Craig) is sexually assaulted by a gangster played by Frank Gorshin.

Madison decides to help the local and federal government get evidence on both parties and bring them crashing down. This proves much more dangerous than he ever imagined.

This is really a top notch crime thriller that really moves and never slows down. Gorshin is over the top as Joe, a sick man who has an uncontrollable lust for young girls. We also get beautiful Jeanne Carmen as a "B" girl who blows Madisons cover.

The rest of the cast includes Russ Conway, Joe Flynn, Virginia Gregg, Larry Dobkin and Rusty Lane. When I was looking at this it was really sad to know that Portland was once a beautiful city and now it's a very dangerous cesspool of filth.

I was there a few weeks ago and will never go back unless it's on business.

SANDS OF IWO JIMA 1949 (MAPLE)

This is easily my favorite film about WW2.

This Allen Dwan directed classic stars John Wayne as Marine Sgt. John Stryker.

Stryker has a lot of personal demons and is one of the most hated and feared men in the Marines. He gets a new batch of recruits and he has to whip them into shape for their upcoming battles.

Wayne commands every scene he's in and is very believable in the role as a cold hearted Sgt. Wayne is helped in this film by excellent direction and a cast that includes John Agar, Forrest Tucker, Martin Milner, Richard Webb, Arthur Franz, Richard Jaeckel and Adele Mara.

There is plenty of real stock footage of the raid at Tarawa Beach and on Iwo Jima. It blends in perfectly with the studio shot footage and everything in this film just falls together.

Coming from a Military family, I watched this with my parents many times, but the first time I saw it I was about 7 and the ending really hit me hard. I mean come on...John Wayne was the hero and it was the second time I had seen the hero die on screen.

I also love this film because of the supporting cast. It's made up of a lot of actors I later saw in some of my favorite monster movies and TV shows.

I really cannot recommend this enough. This film is a tribute to the thousands of men and women who died for this country and the freedoms we had for so many years. A lot of those freedoms are gone today.
