This film is ultra rare on DVD anymore, but if you can find it, by all means see it. This is a top notch film noir about a gangster who is nothing but a sadistic madman and the police officer who is trying to catch him.
Richard Conte stars as Mr. Brown, a ruthless gangster who owns many businesses and has a very dark secret to hide. His performance is perfect and his best line is "First is First, second is nothing."
Brian Donlevy is his partner who has a hearing aide, which is later removed when he is killed by Brown in a very disturbing and totally silent scene.
Cornel Wilde is the detective out to stop him and in the process falls in love with Brown's very hot girlfriend played by Wilde's real life wife Jean Wallace. Earl Holliman and Lee Van Cleef are the two thugs who do Brown's dirty work, and are repaid with death as well.
On a scale of 1 to 10 I rate this an 11, and I wish they made films this good today. If you can find this film noir classic, see it and find out what classic movie makiing is all about.
