It has been a long time since I had the opportunity to see this again, and I found it just as enjoyable this time as the last. George Zucco stars as a mad archaeologist who has a very dark secret indeed.
In order to protect an Aztec treasure he feels belongs to him, he kills people he feels will get to close to his secret by giving them a strange looking feather and then unleashing a bizarre flying monster on them that kills them and drinks their blood.
The monster is thought to be the legendary Quetzalcoatl and Zucco's character of Prof. Andrew Forbes believes this as well. The host of a mystery radio show travels to the small New Mexico town where the killings are happening and opens an investigation live on radio.
If the plot sounds familiar it's because it's almost exactly like "The Devil Bat" which was PRC's biggest hit at the time. This is a very surreal thriller with a bizarre looking flying monster.
I first saw this on the USA network on Commander USA and fell in love with it. It's too bad this film does not have a Blu-ray release, but I can keep hoping. The rest of the cast includes Ralph Lewis, Hope Kramer and Milton Kibbee.
Actually I like this film even better than when I first reviewed it years ago. A HIGHLY RECOMMENDED little film.
