For lovers of movies from the silent era to modern day with an emphasis on horror, sci-fi, exploitation, WIP, westerns and anything of the fantastic and bizarre. THIS SITE IS DEDICATED TO BOB WILKINS, GEORGE ROMERO, ALAN FREED, ROGER CORMAN, HELGA LINE, CAROLINE MUNRO, JOHN FREDRIKSEN, JOHN ZACHERLE, CLEO MOORE , ROSALBA NERI, ERIKA BLANC, FEMI BENUSSI, SHIRLEY CORRIGAN, ROSANNA YANNI, MIRTA MILLER, KARIN DOR, BARBARA BOUCHET, MAMIE VAN DOREN, BARBARA STEELE and, of course, CASEY KASEM.
Life behind bars in a women's prison is one very well in what may be the film that actually started the WIP genre. Phyllis Thaxter is a young woman entering prison for the first time who has trouble coping with her new life.
The prison is run by Ida Lupino, who runs the women's side and Barry Kelly who runs the mens side. Thaxter is on the brink of insanity but thanks to inmates played by Cleo Moore, Jan Sterling and Audrey Totter she comes around a little.
All hell breaks loose when one of the men, played by Warren Stevens, sneaks into the women's side and talks to his wife, Totter. For this infraction Totter is beaten to death by Lupino and a riot breaks out.
This is a fun film loaded with top notch actresses of the time and also Howard Duff as a prison doctor constantly at odds with Lupino. Sadly, Cleo Moore doesn't have too many scenes, but I cannot recommend this movie enough.
Maura Monti is a very beautiful woman who fights a mad scientist as Batwoman.
A mad scientist wants to create a race of gillmen and our superhero must stop him. When they first meet she throws acid in his face to escape and that makes the mad man even more determined to take over the world.
The effects are what one would expect in a very low budget south of the border effort, but they are fun. The first gillman is created by having a regular fish in an aquarium along with a small plastic doll!! God I love this stuff.
Monti always wears a bikini which is a major plus and she is helped by Armando Silvestre as Tony Roca. VCI has turned out a very nice print which shows ff the Acapulco scenery very well. There are no subtitles, but who needs them. Just sit back and enjoy this mindless fun.
Shirley Temple reached heights of stardom most child actors never reach. She sang and tap danced her way to the top of the heap in the 30's and 40's.From 1935-1939 she was the most popular star in the world.
She acted in a few movies after her child star days were over, but instead of fading she became a leading Republican fundraiser and a diplomat for several countries. Her immense talents will be missed as there are very few people such as Shirley Temple. She was 85.
Dane Clark stars as a returning vet from Korea who has to find out what real love is. He takes up with a local beauty played by Cleo Moore and finds nothing hut misery and lies.
This is a very well made drama and the cast is excellent. it also includes Barbara Hale, Judy Nugent and Richard Wessel. Not too shabby for a 1954 TV drama. I can easily recommend this to any Cleo Moore fan out there.
Cleo Moore was one of the most beautiful women ever to appear in film, and it is sad her hand full of films are never talked about much.
In this film she plays a woman who works in a small eatery who sees the owner get 25,000 from an illegal transaction and decides to steal it because many years earlier he cheated he father out of a huge sum of money. She steals it, confesses her crime and is sent to jail for a short time.
Once released for good behavior she is employed as a waitress in a small restaurant and things seem to go down hill from there. Her boss, played by Hugo Haas needs money and she agrees to help him by telling him where she buried the money a few years before. After a while it appears he stole her money as well and so she goes to his apartment and clubs him over the hea with a bottle, apparently killing him, and things then get even more twisted.
I won't give away the ending, but this is good film noir with a twist. Cleo always looks good, and believe me in this film she looks hotter than hell. The rest of the cast includes Glenn Langan, Burt Mustin and Russ Conway. Thank God these are being released on DVD via Sony.
Candice Railson, Robin Mattson and Maria Rojo are three sexy nurses and their adventures while working at a hospital. Maria Rojo is Marisa who falls for a man who is accused of robbing a gas station and she intends to prove his innocence. Robin Mattson is Dianne who falls for a basketball player and tries to get him off of drugs and Candice Railson is Sandy who took the job to be with her doctor boyfriend.
The above paragraph pretty much sums up the film. It is a good way to kill 77 minutes and it is made all the better by having Railson in the film. I have said it before and I will say it again...I will watch ANYTHING with Candy Railson in it, and her presence in this film only makes it better.
If you enjoy harmless pap and just want to kill a little time, this film is for you.
I have always loved Santo and will always be a huge fan. This film known as Santo Vs. The Riders Of Terror concerns lepers who escape from a leper colony in the old west and then are blame for thefts and killing that are really being committed by bandits using the lepers as cover.
Seeing Santo in the old west is a little jarring, but who really cares. These films are fantasy come to life an watching them requires you to have a little imagination. The leper make-up is very good and the print from VCI is as good as can be expected, but I did notice some odd connecting shots that seem to have been inserted into the film for reasons I cannot figure out.
This was one of the few Santo films I had never seen and was i entertained by it....damn right I was. The film has no sub titles, but again, you don't need them. VCI has turned out a lot of these in the last week or so and I recommend you get them all if you are a Santo fan, or Mexican movie lover.
Armando Silvestre co-stars along with Mary Montiel.
Robert Rodriguez brings us a sequel to his classic "Machete". This time the US Government hires Machete to stop an arms dealer in Mexico who is plotting to launch a weapon into space.
There is a LOT of action including shootings, fist fights and other sundry things that keep this film moving at a very brisk pace. Sadly this film didn't do well at the box office and I firmly believe that is because most people sadly only want to see stupid super hero movies such as "Iron Man" and other such Marvel comics garbage.
This is a witty and totally over the top film with a hell of a cast including Jessica Alba, Sofia Vergara, Amber Heard, Mel Gibson, Michelle Rodriguez and many, many more. The Blu-ray disc is perfect in every way and I cannot recommend this film enough. The film ends with a door for a sequel and a trailer called "Machete Kills Again....in Space".
