Mario Bava will always be the King of Italian horror cinema, and this movie easily shows you why. This contains three chilling horror tales. The first is The Telephone starring the incredibly sexy Michele Mercier as a young woman who is terrified by a mysterious caller that turns out to be her ex lover escaped from jail just to murder her. This was the first Italian thriller filmed in color and it launched a new wave of Italian cinema called "Giallo" which means Yellow which is the color of the crime books published in Italy. This story has some of the sexiest scenes ever shot of an actress, and nobody did it better than Bava.
The second tale is entitled The Wurdulak and stars the host, Boris Karloff in his last great horror role as Gorka, who is in reality a vampire who must now stalk and suck the blood of those he loves the most. The images in this story will stay with me for the rest of my life. Images such as his young grandson who has been turned into a vampire calling to his parents from outside the house pleading to get in because he is cold. A great gothic horror tale also starring Mark Damon.
The final tale continues to give me nightmares to this day. It is entitled The Drop Of Water and it concerns a nurse who steals the ring off of a dead witches finger and then is haunted by the sound of dripping water, that is until the corpse of the hideous woman returns to claim the nurses life. Seeing this horrible corpse walking around was more than enought to send this guy running when he was young and first saw this film on tv in the early 70's.
Nobody made better horror film all round than Bava, and it is a shame his kind are around no more to really scare and entertain an audience and this movie is considered his best next to Black Sunday.
The disc contain the original uncut Italian version in Italian with optional English subtitles. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
