HOUSE OF FRANKENSTEIN 1944 (UNIVERSAL)

Re-visiting an old friend.

This Universal thriller has everything one could want in an old school horror film.

Boris Karloff is Dr. Niemann, a madman who is convinced that the experiments of Frankenstein were good and that he could improve on them. After he and Daniel, a hunchback played by J. Carroll Naish escape from a prison they find a traveling carnival with prof. Lampini who has the actual remains of the evil Dracula with him.

Dracula is brought back to life and immediately starts to victimize a beautiful young woman played by Anne Gwynne. His plans fall apart and Dracula is left to die in the rising sun by Niemann and Daniel, which brings us to another part of this film.

Neimann has killed Lampini and assumes his identity. He travels to the castle of Frankenstein and finds the frozen bodies of both the monster and the wolfman. They are both thawed out and Niemann begins his experiments. They end in disaster as the wolfman is killed an the monster breaks free and carries an injured Niemann into the swamp an they both die in the quicksand.

the rest of the cast includes Lionel Atwill, George Zucco, John Carradine as Dracula, Lon Chaney, jr. as the Wolfman, Glenn Strange as the monster, Elena Verdugo and and Sig Ruman.

An absolute must for any horror fan. Watching one of these is like putting on a very comfortable pair of shoes, it just feels so good. Recommended!
