10...HORROR AT 37,000 FEET (PARAMOUNT)...This well made TV horror finally saw the light of day on DVD. I never forgot it from the first time I saw it way back in 1973. An all star cast includes Roy Thinnes, Tammy Grimes, Buddy Ebson, Chuck Conners, William Shatner and France Nuyen and more!
9...BATMAN (FOX)...The entire three year run of this great TV show made it to DVD and Blu-ray this past year. One of my all time favorite shows!!! Adam West and Burt Ward are the Dynamic Duo.
8...TALES FROM THE CRYPT/VAULT OF HORROR (SHOUT FACTORY)... Shout Factory brings us the ultimate DVD double feature...Tales is great but we finally get to see the UNCUT Vault of Horror for the first time ever!! Well worth waiting for.
7...DEATH BED THE BED THAT EATS (CULT EPICS)...One of the most obscure and strangest films ever made got the Blu-ray treatment from a small company and it looks fantastic. These are the kinds of movies the medium is meant for.
6...BIG COMBO (OLIVE)...Olive brought us this film on Blu-ray in 2014. My favorite film noir of all time. Richard Conte is top notch as Mr. Brown, a very powerful criminal running an entire city while a small time cop played by Cornell Wilde tries to bring him down. Absolutely one of the finest films ever!!
5...ATOM AGE VAMPIRE (SINISTER CINEMA)...Greg Luce brings us a much longer version of this classic Italian horror film starring Alberto Lupo as a scientist who turns himself into a monster for the love of a beautiful stripper. The longer version contains scenes in Italian with English subtitles. The print is beautiful and Sinister continues to be one of the leading sources for all things horrific on DVD.
4...SLEEPAWAY CAMP (SHOUT FACTORY)...The Blu-ray release of this slasher film made a huge buzz in 2014. I can never forget this movie because the ending is a shocker that I was not expecting. Shout is easily one of the best companies out there.
3...BEAST OF HOLLOW MOUNTAIN/NEANDERTHAL MAN (SHOUT FACTORY)...The very first release of 2014 was a great one in my opinion. I have always loved both of these films, and to get them on Blu-ray made it all that much better and the quality is top notch. A great 50's double shocker combo.
2...QUATERMASS XPERIMENT (KINO)...My favorite British horror film finally got the Blu-ray treatment in 2014. This is film making as it should be. Great story, tense directing and quality acting from Brian Donlevy as Bernard Quatermass.
An here we are at the number one release of the year 2014...This film was one of the most requested films ever and it had never had a release on any digital format in America......
1...WITHOUT WARNING (SHOUT FACTORY)...This is the tale of an alien who comes to Earth to hunt humans for sport. Greydon Clark directed this epic sci-fi tale starring Jack Palance and Martin Landau as just two of the many people involved. They both act crazy, but Landau takes the cake. The alien is a great looking monster who throws little flesh eating discs at his prey. Ralph Meeker and Neville Brand also star. This was presented in a Blu-ray/DVD combo and it couldn't have been better.
There you have it..Over the last five weeks I have presented my Top 50 picks for the year 2014. Some titles didn't make it but they do get honorable mention...
Honorable mention goes to....DEADLY EYES (SHOUT FACTORY)...KILLERS FROM SPACE (SINISTER CINEMA)....Here is to an even better release year in 2015.
