Martin Kosleck is a troubled artist who, after a rejection of his work by a renowned critic, decides to take his own life. he spots a man's body in the river below the bridge and rushes to pull him out.
He takes the man home and decides to use him in a new sculpture. He learns the giant of a man is a killer known as "The Creeper" (Rondo Hatton) and decides to also use his new friend as an instrument of revenge on those who criticized his work.
The Creeper kills a woman by his usual snapping of the spine and the police begin to wonder if the Creeper is indeed on the prowl again.
Robert Lowery and Virginia Grey are the love interests who become heavily involved in the killing. Lowery's character of Steven Morrow is a leading suspect in one of the murders.
The story moves along very quickly and holds your attention. It's always good to see these old Universal chillers as they bring back a lot of great memories from childhood.
The rest of the cast includes Alan Napier, Bill Goodwin, Virginia Christine and Joan Shawlee as a gorgeous blonde named Stella. I actually don't think Shawlee ever looked any better than she does in this film. If you haven't seen this, I recommend you do.
