SHERLOCK HOLMES FACES DEATH 1945 (MPI)

Interesting WW2 Sherlock Holmes film.

This film takes a slightly different route than the three previous Holmes films set in WW2.

Dr. Watson (Nigel Bruce) has volunteered his time at a convalescent home for war vets. Several murders occur and Holmes is called in by Watson to help him solve the crimes.

There is no shortage of suspects in the home as Holmes (Basil Rathbone) finds possible murderers may be the patients, the staff or even the owners of the home.

The local police arrest Capt. Vickery (Milburn Stone) for the crimes, but Holmes knows this is wrong and attempts to prove Lestrade (Dennis Hoey) wrong. This is not the best of the Holmes series, but it does try something different and that is pretty cool.

The rest of the cast in this little gem include lovely Hillary Brooke, Gavin Muir, Halliwell Hobbs, and Minna Phillips. A very odd entry in the series, but an entertaining one.

The restoration of this film is beautiful as they all have been so far, but it really allows one to see what great black and white photography was used and how it can enhance the mood.
