BATTLE OF THE WORLDS 1960 (SINISTER CINEMA) WIDESCREEN EDITION

Filmed in 1961 but not released here in the US until 1963, this little Italian sci-fi gem has finally been released in a beautiful widescreen version.

Claude Rains stars in this film as Prof. Benson. It seems that an asteroid is heading on a collision course with the Earth.

Benson tries to disprove this as he clashes with other top scientists and government officials. Benson is loud, boisterous and sometimes overbearing, but he does get proven correct when the asteroid stops moving and assumes an orbit around the Earth.

To everyone's surprise, including Benson's, a fleet of ships come out of the asteroid, dubbed "The Outsider" and attack the Earth. Now Benson and the rest of the world try to figure out a defense.

It ultimately comes down to a battle between the Earth forces and a living planet. This is one of the most serious Italian sci-fi films to ever be made, and it plays very well indeed.

The movie has been on many public domain sets for years and used to play on TV a lot. However, Sinister now brings us a beautiful widescreen print with beautiful color and original Italian dialogue with English subtitles.

If you're a fan of spaghetti science fiction, then I would highly recommend this little gem.
