JACK THE RIPPER 1959 (SEVERIN) BLU-RAY

I found this a very well made little film.

This movie has been available from a few companies for a while and I never got around to looking at it, which is my bad.

I received this from Severin as a free bonus with an order I placed and was finally glad I got to see it. Eddie Byrne is Inspector O' Neill, who is currently trying to solve some brutal killings in the Whitechapel section of London.

An American detective arrives to help O'Neill. The murders continue with a mysterious killer always asking for a woman named Mary. This is the uncut European version which contains a bit more graphic violence and some nudity involving the female dancers in a tavern.

By today's standards it pretty tame, but it is nice to see a different version. The ending scene was originally in color to highlight the shock value, but in this edition it is in black and white.

The story moves along well, and the killer is revealed in the final 10 minutes and while it may not surprise everyone, it took me without warning. Also, this is the French version with English subtitles.

I enjoyed the film a lot and if you get a chance to see it, do so. It's the standard Jack The Ripper story with a few twists. The rest of the cast includes Lee Patterson, Betty McDowell, Ewen Solon and John Le Mesurier.
