John Carradine stars as Max Heinrich Von Altermann, a mad scientist creating zombies on an island in order to help the Germans during WW2.
Von Altermann has experimented on his wife and finds that she still has a will of her own, which creates trouble. In the meantime the brother of Von Altermann's wife Lila (Veda Ann Borg) shows up and wants answers to her death.
It has been said that this is a remake of the 1942 film "King Of The Zombies" but I don't know. There are a lot of similar things and some of the cast members are the same, but it is slightly different.
There are some interesting plot twists involved here and Carradine is pure gold in his role. The zombies are creepy and the ending is very well done. I love these old Monogram films and am always happy to see one remastered and released on Blu-ray, and once again Kino has done a great job.
The rest of the cast for this little gem includes Mantan Moreland, Gale Storm, Bob Steele, Robert Lowery, Mauritz Hugo, Madame Sul-Te-Wan and Sybil Lewis.
This is fun stuff indeed and needs to be seen by fans of the genre.
