SHORT TAKES......

This month I am going to be putting the spotlight on Sinister Cinema. I have reviewed a lot of their material here an will be re-visiting many films from them this month. I watched an odd double feature of Sinister titles the other day.

THE UNCANNY 1977 (SINISTER CINEMA) Peter Cushing is an author who has discovered that cats are supernatural beings and are really controlling everything. He hopes to expose this when a man, played by Ray Milland might want to publish his findings. Three tales are then revealed including one about a young woman who attempts to steal a dead woman's will. The cats owned by the woman exact a horrible revenge.

The second tale is about a young girl who is sent to live with her relatives after her mother dies. The little girl is versed in the ways of black magic and has a special revenge in store for her tormentors. Finally we have the third tale starring Donald Pleasence as a ham actor who kills his wife so his mistress can have a chance to become as actress. the dead wife's cat seeks revenge.

The ending to the film is pretty good as well and it makes for a good terror package. The cast is rounded out by John Vernon, Samantha Eggar, Joan Greenwood and Susan Penhaligon.

RUN FOR THE HILLS 1953 (SINISTER CINEMA) Lew Landers directed this weird little film starring Sonny Tufts as a man who is scared the atomic bomb is going to end everything so he convinces his sexy as hell wife, played by Barbara Payton to live in a cave with him as the wait for the end of the world.

The cave is a bomb shelter ans they end up charging people to see how the "family of the future" will live. This is a very oddball comedy that really isn't too bad. In the end they find the cave will not work as a bomb shelter, but they do discover gold, and lots of it.

Payton is the highlight of the film, and seeing her in a loincloth is something I could look at all day. Recommended for it's oddness.
