Previously filmed as "Weird Woman" by Universal in the 40's with Lon Chaney, Jr., this classic film based on the novel by Fritz Leiber really hits the mark.
A college professor (Peter Wyngarde) finds that his lovely wife has been using charms and spells to protect him from evil. He refuses to believe in this kind of "white" witchcraft and makes her burn all of her tools of the trade.
He soon finds his life turned upside down as he is accused of inappropriate behavior with an admiring female student as well as other problems. His wife Tansy (Janet Blair) fries to tell him that rivals are using dark magic against him, but as usual he refuses to listen until finally he has no choice.
There are some truly terrifying moments in this finely crafted thriller. The climax is truly stunning and not soon forgotten. The screenplay was written by Charles Beaumont and Richard Matheson and it really holds up well.
if you get the chance to see this, please do. It's a classic gem.
