Candace Hilligoss stars as a young woman named Mary Henry who seemingly survives a car wreck that kills her two companions.
She immediately gets on with her life and moves to Salt Lake City to play the organ at a small church. On the trip to Utah she sees a pasty faced man looking in her car window and then standing on the road. Also, she passes by a run down amusement park just outside of town.
Mary gets a job, a roof over her head yet something seems to be terribly wrong. The pasty faced ghoul continues to come after her and she has moments when she is detached from reality. Things get even worse once Mary visits the amusement park.
Director Herk Harvey does an excellent job with this modern day ghost story. Filmed in Lawrence, Kansas for about $30,000 as well as other locations such as Saltair, a cool, abandoned amusement park outside of Salt lake City. The criterion version is the 78 minute version and it looks better than ever.
You all probably know about this film anyway, but if you haven't seen the criterion version, you're missing something. There are tons of extras including interviews with the cast and writer as well as a documentary about the film and a documentary about Saltair.
A solid package that is a MUST for any horror fan.
Yeah, Criterion did an awesome job on this title. I cannot wait to see how their Night of the Living Dead looks in February.
ReplyDeleteI already know NOTLD is going to look fabulous.
