RAMBLINGS...MY TOP 10 EURO HORROR FILMS

Another very problematic list to form. I love hundreds and hundreds of these movies as there are many, many great films that came out of every corner of the world during the 60's and 70's, and as you'll notice in my list Spain and Italy tend to rule the roost.

10. VAMPIRES NIGHT ORGY 1973...Every since I saw this Italian/Spanish shocker many, many years ago it has haunted me. Several tourists are trapped in a small town inhabited by vampires. Several scenes are nightmare inducing and Helga Line is sexy as hell, of course.

9. TOMBS OF THE BLIND DEAD 1972...Amando De Ossorio's horror gem about rotting corpses of the Knights Templar seeking victims. A haunting music score and some incredible photography along with slow motion horse chases. As is usual in films from Spain the women are simply stunning.

8. ZOMBIE 1979...Lucio Fulci's gore splattered horror classic. This actually played on a double bill with "Dawn Of The Dead" at a theater in Billngs Montana back in 1979. Once seen, never forgotten.

7. CASTLE OF BLOOD 1964...Beautiful Barbara Steele stars in this Italian horror classic about a man who wagers he can stay in a haunted castle on Halloween night. I watch this EVERY Halloween. A shocker that has again, always stuck with me. The bleak atmosphere, great music score and Steele's beauty make this a winner.

6. DR. JEKYLL AND THE WOLFMAN 1972...Spanish horror starring Paul Naschy as the doomed werewolf Waldemar Daninsky who is changed into a sadist named Hyde. Bizarre mixing of stories that captivated me in it's bizarre twist. And oh yes, Shirley Corrigan is simply gorgeous as is Mirta Miller.

5. MALENKA 1969...A great Spanish horror film starring Anita Ekberg as a young woman haunted by vampires. This strange mixture of vampires and gothic horror caught my attention as a kid on NIGHTMARE THEATER on KCPX from Salt Lake City, and I have loved this since I was about 10. Of course the woman are all simple gorgeous and I was happy as a pig in mud when the fully uncut edition finally came out earlier this year.

4. VAMPIRE AND THE BALLERINA 1960... A favorite of mine since I was about 6 years old. This fun Italian shocker is about two vampires terrorizing a troupe of sexy dancers. Some great black and white photography that captures the gothic atmosphere.

3. INQUISITION 1976...Directing debut of actor Paul Naschy who also stars in this film. He plays an Inquisitor who falls in love with a witch, sealing his doom. Some shocking scenes of torture and a bevy of gorgeous women have always made this a favorite. A Spanish horror classic.

2. NIGHT OF THE SORCERERS 1974...It took me years to track down the uncut version of this wonderful Amando De Ossorio gem back in the day, and when I finally got a complete copy I was knocked out. What is not to like? Sexy vampire women in leopard skin bikinis stalk their victims in the Jungle. Not on bad looking female in the entire film, and that is a plus. An underrated Spanish horror, in my opinion.

1. WEREWOLF SHADOW 1971...While not the grand daddy of Spanish horror, it is this film's international success that made the 70's Euro horror boom possible. Paul Naschy returns as Waldemar Daninsky the werewolf. This was more widely known as "Werewolf Vs. The Vampire Woman" and I remember seeing the trailer on TV and just falling all over myself convincing my mom to take me. As a child I loved the werewolf and vampire woman but since I am now a few years older I can testify to the beauty of both leading women, Gaby Fuchs and Barbara Capell, and you even have Paty Shepard as Countess Wandesa, the vampire. I could rave about this film all day. It's my favorite for sure.

I hope some of you people are enjoying my Top 10 lists. I have two more genres to cover and then I will also present my Top 10 worst films of all time, but more on that later.
