BLUE MONKEY 1987 (TUBI)

From director William Fruet who gave us such films as "House By The Lake", "Funeral Home" and "Spasms".

I found this to be a very enjoyable monster flick. The movie starts off very strong as an elderly man is bitten by an insect while looking at a rare plant.

He immediately falls ill and is rushed to a hospital. While being examined a huge parasite comes out of his mouth and is captured by the doctors who need to see what it is.

After it is accidentally exposed to a growth hormone it mutates and grows at a very rapid rate. The bizarre creature then starts eating people in the hospital and procreating.

It's up to a doctor Rachel Carson (Gwynyth Walsh) a detective Jim Bishop (Steve Railsback) and a bug expert Elliot Jacobs (Don Lake) to stop the monster before it's too late.

To add to their troubles the Canadian government has issued what they call a stage 4 quarantine on the hospital after reviewing the information sent from the hospital regarding the parasite. The occupants are told that in two hours the building will be burned to the ground to stop the mysterious infection from spreading.

This movie, as I stated above starts out very strong and it stays that way but changes gears and becomes a straight monster movie about two thirds of the way thru. That is not a bad things and the giant insect is impressive.

This is how monster movies should be made, and I can't see any horror fan not liking this film. The rest of the cast includes John Vernon, Susan Anspach, Sarah Polley, Helen Hughes and Sandy Webster.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
