Good and fun little thriller from the late 50's about a research doctor whose experiments go wrong and his patients are turned into alligator monsters from injections with lizard chemicals and cobalt 60.
George MaCready is the scientist, Beverly Garland is the woman who is searching for her husband who disappeared on their wedding night, Lon Chaney, Jr. is the hook armed cajun and Richard Crane is the missing husband.
Garland's search leads her to the swamps of Lousiana and an old plantation called the Cypresses. There she learns the real secret of what is happening.
One of the best of the 50's monster movies, this is nothing but pure entertainment with no heavy message or anything.
It is a shame people cannot make movies like thsi today, but to so called "audience" wouldn't accept it. Highly Recommended!!

I just watched this last week, for my own blog series.
ReplyDeleteI was kinda blown away by it, as it had a really unique atmosphere, and an utterly offbeat vibe when compared to other flicks of the time.
And the oppressive tone of despair just drenched every frame.
