Lana Parrilla stars as Marci Eyre, a young and eager reporter working for a campus newspaper that is investigating the claims of UFO's and aliens landing here on Earth.
One night she and two of her friends are working on a story about the government hiding aliens when all of a sudden a space shuttle from Earth crash lands near a secluded base in the California desert.
It seems that on the shuttle they were working on DNA experiments with spiders and an unexpected solar flair caused nothing but trouble. The three sneak into the facility where the lone surviving astronaut has been taken. A huge spider bursts out of his body and slowly begins a reign of terror inside the complex.
Marci and her friends fight for their lives against the insect and the military including an agent named Gray (Mark Phelan) who is totally mad and will kill anyone who disagrees with him on sight.
Soon Marci is the only one of the three not to fall victim to the huge arachnid and she and another agent Murphey (Josh Green) finally manage to escape the facility and head back to her college to warn people about what is happening. They get a huge surprise when they fin Gray has killed the editor and is waiting for them.
The spider has bitten him and now he is infected with alien DNA and a building sized spider comes out of his body and quickly goes on a rampage thru the town, killing everyone in it's path.
It's up to Murphey and Marci to stop the monster once and for all. This wasn't too bad of a film by any means. Lana Parrilla does a good job as a young reporter and there are actually creature effects in the film and not everything CGI, which is always a plus.
I understand they made a "Spiders 2" so I am sure I will have to check it out sometime and see what it's like. If you're looking for a good time waster that isn't dull, this is a movie for you.
