Made by the same people who brought us "The Woman Eater". George Coulouris stars as a multi millionaire named Karl Brussard who has a brain tumor and is dying. He seeks mediacl help and finds a doctor in London who is doing brain and head transplants.
The doctor, Phil Merritt (Robert Hutton) tries to explain to Brussard that he is years away from any kind of head transplant on people, but Brussard thinks he is so important that he decides to take matters into his own hands.
Brussard hires some thngs to steal the head of the prophet Nostradamus whichghe them brings to Merritt. The doctor succeeds in actually bringing the head back alive again, but everything seems to go wrong.
Brussard talks to the head and it tells him to sell all of his stocks, which he does. This sends Brussard into bankruptsy and causes him to lose his mind as well. He makes several attempts to destroy the head as well as a young scientist that has been dating his companion named Odette (Nadja Regin).
With the young scientist being shot it forces Merritt to transplant heads to keep Nostradamus alive. Yes, it sounds like a somewhat convoluted plot for a 1957 low budget horror film.
I didn't find this a bad film as some people do, but I did find myself thinking it needed a shorter running time. It clocks in at about 78 minutes and it would have been better at about 68.
Still, this is a rather obscure 50's horror film that never seems to get enough airplay on TV and hasn't shwon up on any form of home media. If you get a chance you might want to see it, just for something a little different.
