CRIME WAVE 1954 (WARNER)

Good little film noir.

Gene Nelson stars as an ex-con named Steve Lacey who has been living a quiet life with a wife and good job. One night all that comes to an end.

A wounded former cellmate comes to his apartment after being shot in a botched hold-up, and the police track the man to Steve's apartment. He is promptly arrested by Lt. Sims (Sterling Hayden) and from there things only get worse.

The wounded man, who died in the apartment had two friends named "Doc" Penny (Ted de Corsia) and Ben Hastings (Charles Bronson) who also know Steve and force him to help them in a planned bank robbery.

It gets darker and darker for Steve and his wife Ellen (Phyllis Kirk) as there seems to be no way out.

This is a very well made and gritty film that actually has an ending much different than most of the genre. All of the actors do a great job, especially Hayden as the toothpick chomping cop who seems much harder than he really is.

The cast also includes Jay Novello, James Bell, Hedrick Young, Dub Taylor and Timothy Casrey whose performance is typical Carey and unforgettable. I highly recommend this movie for any fan.
