BAIT 1954 (MOVIES TV)

I've always wanted to see this movie, but it never played anywhere...until now.

I first read about this is the Psychotronic Encyclopedia Of Film back in the early 80's. Was it worth the wait? Yeppers.

Hugo Haas stars as Marko, a man most people in the town in which he lives think he's nuts. Marko found and then lost a gold mine in the mountains and has been searching for it ever since.

Along comes Ray Brighton (John Agar) who has agreed to spend the summer helping Marko look for the lost mine as long as he gets a 50 percent take, which Marko has agreed to.

At a small store on the way to the mine Ray meets Peggy (Cleo Moore) whom he instantly falls for, but she resists his advances. It seems Peggy had a child out of wedlock so she is poison to everyone and treated accordingly, except by Ray.

Ray and Marko finally find the mine and start collecting the gold from within, and here it wehere the trouble starts. Marko gets gold fever and wants it all, so he devises a plan to get rid of Ray.

He marries Peggy and brings her up to the cabin where both men are staying. Soon he starts playing them off on one another with the hopes of having a chance to kill Ray and take his share of the gold.

Ray and Peggy fall hard for each other and Marko finds that his plan isn't working well. This leads to a very bizarre climax, but what does one expect in a Haas film?

The film opens with Cedric Hardwick introducing himself as The Devil and showing us the film so we can see how he gets into a human mind and destroys it. I liked this film a lot and of course most of it has to do with the cast, especially Cleo Moore. She will always be one of my favorite screen females.

The rest of the cast include Bruno ve Sota and Emmett Lynn. Recommended if you can find it.
