STORIES OF THE CENTURY 1954-1955 (ECHO BRIDGE)

This is such a great series and not too much is ever written about it.

This series ran from 1954 until 1955 and starred Jim Davis as Matt Clark who is a railroad detective in the old west.

Each week Matt would be investigating another crime against the railroad and it would often pit him against one of the many notorious outlaws of the time. I found several episodes of this to watch on a disc containing western TV shows and found every one of them to be very entertaining.

These are not presented here in episodic order, but in the order in which I saw them on the disc.

DOC HOLLIDAY 3/25/1954... Matt and his assistant Frankie (Mary Castle) head to Tombstone to find Doc Holliday (Kim Spalding) whom they suspect of working with the Clanton gang.

GERONIMO 2/14/54... Matt and Frankie go after Geronimo (Chief Yowlachie) who has helped steal valuable things from a railroad freight yard.

BLACK JACK KETCHUM 6/24/54... Matt and Frankie sreach for the notorious outlaw wanted in two states for murder so they can save the life of an innocent man. Jack Elam stars as Ketchum.

JOHNNY RINGO 3/11/54... Matt tracks Johnny Ringo (Donald Curtis) down for a desert showdown.

JACK SLADE 3/4/55...Matt and his assistane Margaret (Kristine Miller) search for Jack Slade who has pulled off a $25,000 railroad robbery. Gregg Palmer stars as Slade.

BELLE STARR 1/23/54... The very first episode of this series stars Marie Windsor as Belle Starr who has stolen a herd of Cattle from the US Cavalry. Windsor is perfect for this kind of role.

TIBURCIO VASQUEZ 4/23/54...After his sister is killed by a white man, Vasquez vows vengeance on every gringo, and Matt Clark must stop him. This is a very well made episode which really stands out. Anthony Caruso is excellent as Vasquez.

BEN THOMPSON 7/8/54...Matt and Frankie travel to Austin, Texas to investigate a criminal with a long list of crimes.

BURT ALVORD 1/2/55...Matt and Margaret investigate stolen money from the railroad and then some dynamiter is also stolen.

QUANTRILL AND HIS RAIDERS 2/21/54...Matt and Frankie are asked to infiltrate Quantrill and his raiders> They do, but are unable to prevent to massacre at Lawrence, Kansas. Bruce Bennett is perfect as Quantrill.

BLACK BART 5/6/54... Arthur Space stars as Black Bart whom Matt and Frankie are searching for inconnection with numerous train robberies.

HARRY TRACY 5/27/54... Matt and Frankie hunt down Harry Tracy (Steve Brodie) after he steals a train.

APACHE KID 1/9/55...Matt and Margaret hunt the dangerous Apache Kid (Kenneth Alton) after he commits a murder and kidnaps a young woman.

CATTLE KATE 2/28/54... Jean Parker stars as Ella Watson AKA Cattle Kate. Matt and Frankie travel to Sweetwater, Wyoming to stop Kate and her lover, Jim Averell (Jim Seay) from stealing more cattle.

CLAY ALLISON 7/15/54... Fankie is shot during a robbery and Matt arrests Clay Allison (Jack kelly). One of the best episodes of the series.

LITTLE BRITCHES 6/17/54... A young woman meets up with an outlaw played by James Best and soon Matt is investigating.

THE YOUNGER BROTHERS 4/2/54... Matt and Frankie work to prevent the Younger Brothers from pulling off a huge robbery in Minnesota.

TOM BELL 1/16/55... Tom Bell kills a railroad employee and Matt Clark is sent in to investigate.

MILT SHARP 2/28/55... Matt and Margaret investigate the kidnapping of a banker from a stagecoach. Don Barry stars as Sharp.

Well, that's all of what I had on the disc and each episode is unique. It was the first western series to win an Emmy, and it's easy to see why. I hope I can get to see the rest of these sometime soon.
